One in five girls globally is married as a child. The leading cause of child marriage is #poverty. Families facing financial hardship view early marriage as a way to reduce economic burdens or secure their child's future. Emerging crises like climate disasters, conflict, and new pandemics exacerbate these risks. Girls married as children face lifelong consequences: lack of education, early pregnancy risks, maternal health issues, and social isolation. Those consequences are generational – her children are also more likely to grow up in poverty. The best defense is to build economically resilient households. The #GraduationApproach tackles the root causes of child marriage, such as poverty and social norms while fostering long-term economic resilience and empowerment for women. Creating safer spaces for women and girls starts at home. At Trickle Up, we’re proud to support families in extreme poverty by helping them build resilience. When households thrive, child marriage becomes a thing of the past. #NoExcuse #16Days #PartneringWithWomen #OrangeTheWorld #EndGBV #EmpowerWomen #GenderEquality #16DaysOfActivism #UNiTE #GenderEquality #HumanRights #EmpowerWomen
关于我们
Trickle Up partners with women living in extreme poverty to drive social and economic inclusion and promote sustainable livelihoods. We drive large-scale change by partnering with governments, global institutions, and local organizations. Trickle Up was founded in 1979 at a time when "trickle down” economics was the conventional wisdom. We watched the poor getting poorer while the rich benefited from this approach. Trickle Up founders Glen and Mildred Robbins Leet knew from their experience that nothing empowers an individual to achieve their dreams more than the trust and encouragement of another human being. They put into practice what their experience had taught them: investing in individuals at the grassroots level is the most powerful antidote to extreme poverty. Over 38 years later, Trickle Up continues to be a critical vehicle for the social and financial empowerment of women living in extreme poverty. Trickle Up focuses on the toughest challenges in global poverty alleviation: to reach the poorest, most vulnerable, isolated people and create trajectories towards financial independence. We have lifted over one million people worldwide - particularly women, people with disabilities, refugees, and indigenous people - out of extreme poverty and into a better quality of life. We invest in people. We bolster communities. We champion power over poverty.

The tragic murders of Rebecca Cheptegei, Agnes Tirop, Damaris Mutua, and Edith highlight a harsh reality: for many women, success can be dangerous. Across the globe, when women defy traditional roles or achieve too much, they risk retaliation by the men in their lives. ? Having lived and worked in developing countries, I’ve seen this dynamic unfold repeatedly. Women across the globe are making decisions, large and small, based on what will be acceptable to the men in their lives. Every opportunity for a woman has to pass through the gatekeepers of male approval. As the president and CEO of Trickle UP, a global NGO dedicated to forging pathways out of poverty for women, I know that as vile as we find violence against women, it is a symptom of a larger problem: some men’s belief that they have the right to control women’s behavior. Some exert control through violence, some through financial dominance, others through the threat of divorce and social isolation. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (November 25–December 10) is a vital opportunity to confront this crisis. We desperately need to redefine manhood in a way that doesn’t involve dominating women. The world will be a very different place when all women were free to pursue their ambitions without fear of retaliation. https://lnkd.in/eMeXjZQZ #NoExcuse #16Days #PartneringWithWomen #OrangeTheWorld #EndGBV #EmpowerWomen #16DaysofActivism #UNiTE #GenderEquality #HumanRights #EmpowerWomen #UNWomen

H.R. 9495 is a threat to free speech, civil liberties, and the ability of nonprofits to advocate for the communities we serve. The US House of Representatives just passed H.R. 9495, a bill that would grant the executive branch unprecedented authority to investigate, intimidate, and dismantle nonprofit organizations — including news outlets, universities, and nonprofits like Trickle Up. We are deeply concerned about the chilling effect this legislation would have on the nonprofit sector and civil society at large. The ability to speak out, organize, and advocate is fundamental in the fight for social justice and against poverty.?? If passed, this bill could be used to silence critics, curb free speech, and punish organizations that work for causes deemed controversial. Any administration would have the power to target political opponents and punish those who stand up for the most marginalized.? ?? Trickle Up is standing with more than 130 organizations like Oxfam America,? ACLU, NAACP, and the National Women's Law Center urging Congress to reject H.R. 9495 and allow us to serve the world’s most marginalized without threat or intimidation. Now is the time to act.? ? I urge you to tell your representative to protect our right to free speech and reject this dangerous bill. Across low- and middle-income countries, there are 265 million fewer women than men using mobile internet (GSMA, 2024). Safety and security concerns are a key barrier to women’s mobile internet adoption and the top barrier to further use. On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Trickle Up, together with EQUALS - The Global Partnership for Gender Equality in the Digital Age recognizes that the digital world can significantly empower women and girls, yet it can also be a space where they face significant risks. We are committed to bridging the digital gender divide by promoting safe, inclusive, and empowering online environments for all women and girls. Today, let’s reaffirm our dedication to ending violence against women in all forms—both offline and online. #16Days #OrangeTheWorld #InternationalDayToEndViolence #EQUALS #NoExcuse #PartneringWithWomen
