“I am a caregiver for my 93-year-old husband and was unable to cook meals after a shoulder replacement. Without the great meals delivered to our door twice a week, we would not have been able to manage!” Contact your legislators and tell them to address the need for meals for seniors. Yesterday, Trellis' Dawn Simonson joined Leah Herbert Welles of Open Arms of Minnesota and Jeff Wyant of Semcac, Community Action Agency in testifying on behalf of the Senior Meals and Services Coalition, which is seeking funding from the Minnesota Legislature for the senior nutrition program and supportive services that help older adults live in their own homes. Said Dawn, "It is well understood that meals, rides and in-home help are the core services that people need to age in place, and they are generally much less expensive than assisted living or nursing home care. Investing in these critical services must be a part of Minnesota's strategy to care for older adults." You can watch Dawn, Leah and Jeff testify at the link below, beginning at the 1:24 mark. #mnleg https://lnkd.in/gHDbtN68

One in two older adults is at risk for malnutrition. Poor nutrition has a disastrous impact on people’s health and well-being, increasing chronic disease, hospitalization and the need for institutional care. Current funding for meals for Minnesota’s most vulnerable older adults does not meet the growing need. Ask your legislators to increase funding for senior meals and services this session.
