Treehouse, Washington’s leading nonprofit supporting the educational, material, and financial needs of youth in foster care, is calling on community members to come together and make a lasting impact. Whether by hosting a fundraiser drive, purchasing gifts from our wish list, volunteering, or making a financial contribution, everyone has the power to change the lives of young people in foster care. This year’s campaign, "Little Things Make Big Things Happen," highlights how every contribution—no matter the size—makes a difference. From hosting a donation drive to making a monetary gift, each effort adds up to a collective impact that transforms lives. “The little things we do—whether it’s a Treehouse Education Specialist checking in on a student’s grades, a workplace hosting a clothing drive, or a volunteer helping in our Seattle store—all contribute to creating a brighter future for our young people,” said Dawn Rains, CEO of Treehouse. “It’s these small, individual acts of kindness that add up to big changes in the lives of youth in foster care receiving Treehouse’s support.” Read more: https://bit.ly/4ejtkdO #HolidayGiving #CorporateResponsibility #Philanthropy #FosterCare

Treehouse staff joined McKinstry and Avista to build 600 kits for SNAP to distribute to Spokane residents to prepare for the winter season. Treehouse Board Member Pat Donahue from Spokane Public Schools also joined us. Each kit included a fabric door stopper, LED light bulbs, nightlight, a battery-backed light bulb (if power is lost), window film covering, a light bulb that automatically turns off in daytime, and weather strip for doors and windows. Handout papers were included, explaining materials and about SNAP’s weatherization services for low-income households such as air-sealing for homes and adding insulation. Shelly Russell, Treehouse's Community Giving Officer in Spokane, spoke to reporters about Treehouse being there and the impact these kits would have for local residents. "Anytime that we can give back to our community is super important," Shelly said. "I know firsthand that these kits go to families that really need them." "I have been involved with Treehouse since I first arrived to Seattle. The Treehouse program provided me with support and resources needed to overcome barriers related to being a refugee and learning English. This program has been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals and succeed in both high school and college. I’m grateful for the support and resources that Treehouse has provided me. My favorite part of the Treehouse is the community, where I’m surrounded by true mentors and peers willing to support and teach one another" said Mapenzi, Treehouse alumni and former Treehouse Fellow. "Growing up, mentors played a significant role in helping me get to where I am now. My grandmother was one of my first mentors, a beacon of inspiration and care. She was a nurse who deeply touched the lives of those around her, including mine. When she passed away, I was overwhelmed by grief; it still brings up a lot of emotions for me today. It was a dark stage in my life," said Shirley, Treehouse alumni and recent college graduate. "I first started working with Treehouse at the age of 16. Little did I know then that this organization would play a pivotal role in shaping my future. Treehouse was there for me. I knew I wanted to pursue higher education, but I had no idea where to start. My Education Specialist helped me figure that out, and we sat down together and applied for community college."
