Last week's event, launching this anti-displacement toolkit from Builders of Hope Community Development Corporation, was great. It was wonderful to hear from community leaders, practitioners, and scholars about how to do "the good" work and make the most change. 3 Take-a-ways: 1. The best affordable housing is currently existing housing. Put money and support into repairing existing housing stock, especially for our most vulnerable senior homeowners. 2. Put money and support behind community organizers because they are at ground zero everyday and have the true pulse of the community's needs. 3. Focus on heirs' property issues. Put money and legal assistance behind helping community members ensure their homes have clean titles and the heir lines are in order.

Give the gift of safe and healthy housing this holiday season. As part of our 30th anniversary celebration, we’re participating in GivingTuesday on December 3 to raise funding for our Minor Home Repair program. Since the program’s inception in 2022, we’ve repaired 38 homes throughout the Forest District, The Bottom, and West Dallas neighborhoods. In 2025, the program will expand into Mill City as part of the ongoing Dallas Catalyst Project. Gentrification threatens Dallas neighborhoods, but effective tools can make a difference. This week, Builders Of Hope CDC?launched its anti-displacement toolkit, a comprehensive roadmap for preserving affordable housing, supported by a $500,000 investment from JPMorganChase. I have the privilege of targeting strategic investments towards solutions oriented initiatives that address complex system issues like neighborhood gentrification and residential displacement. It’s been a tremendous honor to work alongside Matthew McManigle, Celesstia Valdez, and the rest of the Young Guns Community Investors Committee this past year to develop the revitalization of the Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC). I would like to give a sincere shoutout to Bryce Jackson and Austin Sheahan for organizing such a stellar Young Guns Casino Night, which delivered the means for the job at hand. We are set to complete construction by Spring 2025. There are numerous individuals that volunteered countless hours to the planning of this project, which would not have gone as smoothly without their care and expertise. I look forward to highlighting them upon the ribbon cutting ceremony. Progressing into 2025, I feel blessed to be serving as Vice Chair of the Young Guns Core Committee alongside Jasmin Ammons, as we continue to elevate the core values of this organization! This past weekend, our Young Guns project team was out in Mill City working on some of the exterior upgrades to South Dallas Fair Park Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC). The project team helped clear overgrown brush, removed some fencing, peeled rust and paint from remaining fencing, and completed additional landscaping to the site. We can’t wait to see how the 2024 Young Guns Community Investors Project comes together! These renderings show the completed Spring Plaza, which the Young Guns are renovating as part of Dallas Catalyst Project: Mill City alongside South Dallas Fair Park Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC). Our Young Guns members will paint, install new landscaping and signage, and improve security measures at the 15,000 square-foot Spring Plaza, which houses ICDC and three retail spaces. The renovation is expected to benefit ICDC’s general operations and improve the retail experience for future tenants. Here are some quick facts about the project: ? Location: 4907 Spring Avenue ? Financed partly through proceeds from Casino Night ? Spring Plaza serves more than 2,500 residents annually ?
