We are grateful to have been a part of this morning’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Oak Lawn Place senior housing development!
Located at 5723 Sadler Circle, the five-story Oak Lawn Place opened in July. It is run by Resource Center to support the LGBTQIA+ community and adults age 55 and over.
The development features 84 units – 79 one-bedroom apartments and five two-bedroom apartments – as well as a large outdoor terrace overlooking a creek, a lobby, community room, mail room, conference and dining space, kitchen, fitness center, and business center.
Perhaps most importantly, these apartments will be maintained as affordable for residents and households ranging from 30-60 percent of the area median income. More than half of the apartments have been set aside for those below 50 percent of the area median income.
As one of the $31 million project’s early funders, TREC Community Investors contributed $500,000 in 2020 for the acquisition of the property. Additional funders include U.S. Representative Colin Allred, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, Dallas County/American Rescue Plan Act, City of Dallas Office of Economic Development, National Equity Fund, Inc., Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, Amegy Bank, Comerica Bank, Charles Schwab, Veritex Community Bank, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Wells Fargo, and private donors.
Oak Lawn Place is a shining example of how partnerships can have a long-term positive impact on communities and residents. We are proud to be a longstanding partner of Resource Center and part of this groundbreaking project.
We would like to recognize the project’s architect, Perkins&Will, and developer Matthews Southwest, for their critical roles in bringing this significant project to life.
