Pakistan for the Win: Meta AI Accelerator Competition 2024 Hi everyone! I think you have already heard the big news: we (I and Hamza Farooq, representing traversaal.ai along with the help of our team) have won the Meta AI Accelerator Competition in Singapore, representing Pakistan among 13 countries on a global stage. Our product focuses on building state-of-the-art language models for 2.5 billion non-English speakers, starting with Urdu. I never imagined that a single application submitted just three hours before the deadline would take us this far. This experience is why I encourage others not to self-reject and to apply everywhere. Of course, it’s not an individual effort. Great achievements come from a great team, and I am especially grateful to my company’s CEO, Hamza Farooq, for his continued support, mentorship, and openness to new ideas. I would sincerely like to thank Ali Shafique , my team member, who went above and beyond to help turn this dream into a reality, as well as my remaining team members— Maaz Amjad, Sabur B., and Raghavan — for their ideas, contributions, and willingness to pause our planned work to focus on this competition. Big news! Our UrduLlama project has secured a spot in the finals of Asia's first Meta Llama Pitchathon in Singapore! I don't post frequently, but today, I have amazing news to share with you all. This will be a long post because I want to give credit to every person involved who made this possible. I've been working day and night to prepare the pitch, and now, I'm excited to announce that I will be representing Pakistan on behalf of traversaal.ai at the regional finals of Meta Llama Pitchathon in Singapore. Representing my home country on such a big stage is a huge honor, and I hope we do well. I'm very grateful to Allah for this opportunity. Special thanks to the Meta Team and all other organizers—National Incubation Center for Aerospace Technologies, Ministry of IT and Telecom Pakistan, Ignite - National Technology Fund, and e27 (Optimatic)—for taking such initiatives that drive innovation and promote healthy competition. This isn't an individual success but a team effort from our collaborators: Maaz Amjad, Sabur B. , Raghavan Muthuregunathan , Abhinand Balachandran, and Muhammad Ali Shafique.
