Just wrapped up an inspiring experience at Transportation Research Board's Women and Gender in Transportation conference! Some key takeaways (there were far too many to list here): ? 1?? Bridging the gap between research and policy/practice is essential to moving the needle forward.? 2?? Mentorship and mission-driven organizational involvement matter—starting early (besides yesterday, today's the best day!) and staying consistent can make a meaningful difference in supporting each other throughout our careers and life.? 3?? AI is here to stay! We must train each other to be savvy consumers of AI, critically assess outputs, and remember: bias in = bias out.? 4?? We’ve made progress for women and gender-expansive individuals in transportation, but the journey continues. It’s a win-win—individual fulfillment and societal gain, with data showing a significantly greater ROI and higher valuation when women are in the C-suite. Plus, women bring a bravery that comes with not being tied to the old ways. ?? ? A special shoutout to the amazing session I had the privilege of moderating, featuring stellar presentations on gender and LGBTQI+ equity in public transit, real-world examples of transit agencies leading on gender equity, and an impactful study that’s creating toolkits to help agencies of all sizes make gender equity actionable. ?? Mira Patel, Alicia Trost, Cathryn Alvarado, CPP, Chelsea Richer, AICP, Susan O'Donnell, Samuel Rosenthal, AICP, Cate Heady, David Cooper, Nicole Waldheim, Mary Rose Fissinger (we missed you, Meghna Khanna! Can't wait to see what LA Metro implements for the next Olympics!) ? My favorite part of conferences is nourishing existing relationships and making new connections. Everyone at the conference is part of the shift propelling us forward, making transportation work better for our communities and climate?? Loved catching up with you Winnie Okello, PE., Karen Philbrick, Flora M. Castillo, C.H.I.E. and more! ? I'm excited to continue this work and help push the boundaries of what’s possible in transportation! ? #GenderEquity #LGBTQEquity #WomenInLeadership #TransportationInnovation #AI #Mentorship

That’s a wrap on the 7th international Transportation Research Board meeting on Gender and Women in Transportation - in Irvine, California ?? For three full days, research presentations, workshops and panels on gendered issues in transportation were highlighted - there’s been much progress over the decades but a long road ahead. At the Spatial Accessibility session, I presented ongoing work on defining 15 minute “caring” neighbourhoods with Léa Ravensbergen, Lucia Mejia Dorantes, and Antonio Paez. Incredibly appreciative of the warm reception and fantastic feedback. I’ll get to incorporating it soon ?? And huge THANK YOU to everyone on the organizing committee, staff and volunteers for executing such a fantastic event!

Thrilled to have had the opportunity to share insights on #UnleashingPotential through 'Creating Movement and Flow in our Structures' at my recent keynote! We explored the power of artificial and intuitive intelligence, the importance of understanding beliefs, and practices to rewire patterns so we can unlock our full potential. Thank you to Caroline Mays, AICP and Jennifer Dill for inviting me and organizing such a great conference on Women and Gender for Transportation Research Board. It was an honor to speak to such a talented group of women and men in transportation. #WomenInTransportation #ArtificialIntelligence #IntuitiveIntelligence

Over the past 3 days I’ve had the opportunity to attend Transportation Research Board’s Women and Gender in Transportation conference in Irvine. It has been a great experience to hear from women from all different backgrounds and their experiences. A few key takeaways from the conference so far have been: 1. Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. 2. Always be diplomatic. 3. Find great mentors and champions. 4. Say yes to opportunities even when they come in unexpected forms. 5. Be authentic. Thank you Victoria Valentine Deguzman for the opportunity to volunteer and learn so much from an amazing group of women!
