Transportation Alternatives is your advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit in New York City.
关于我们
Transportation Alternatives’ mission is to reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile and to advocate for better bicycling, walking, and public transit for all New Yorkers. Streets and sidewalks are 80% of our public space in New York City – but right now, our lives are polluted, congested, and endangered by car and truck traffic. Transportation Alternatives believes that this public space belongs to the people of New York City, and we are working with New Yorkers in every borough to reclaim our streets.

Unfortunately, the future of secure bike parking in NYC is anything but secure: "The city's ambitious effort to bring 500 bike parking lockers is stalled..." Meanwhile, one in four New York City households has had a bike stolen. We can fix this widespread issue, but not if the rollout of secure bike parking keeps being delayed.

?? Daylighting Saves Lives! ?? Submitted by one of our Manhattan activists: Recently @nyc_dot daylight intersections on the UWS, including a particularly dangerous one at 68th & Riverside Blvd — right next to a playground and the Hudson River Greenway. ?? Before: Parked cars blocked visibility, making it nearly impossible for pedestrians and drivers to see each other. In one photo taken last year, even a full-size MTA bus was barely visible behind a parked car — while another vehicle was completely hidden. ?? Now: With parking removed near the crosswalks, sightlines are clearer. Pedestrians can see approaching traffic, and drivers can see people crossing. One driver even waved to our activist to acknowledge the right of way —?something that wasn’t possible before. ?? What’s Next? Daylighting is a powerful tool, but it works even better with curb extensions and safer street design. Check out an illustration of what the safest kind of daylighting could look like! ?? Take Action: Every intersection in our city should be daylight, which is why we need to pass @cmjuliewon's bill, Intro 1138, to daylight every intersection in NYC. Sign our petition your council member: Support universal daylighting now! https://lnkd.in/gB-qnuKk

Traffic on the Cross Bronx Expressway decreased after congestion pricing started. For years, they warned of worse traffic. The Cross Bronx tells a different story for now. A computer vision analysis of 910 NYC traffic cameras shows the real impact of congestion pricing. This is just the beginning. As NYC invests in faster buses, safer streets, and better transit options, the benefits of congestion pricing will only grow. https://lnkd.in/e3pGiCr3
