It's been a whirlwind two weeks here in #Morocco. Our partners at the African Institute of Smart Governance dropped everything to take us on sales calls, meet dignitaries, got us a booth at the Logiterr trade conference, and even got me the closing keynote spot at the show! I've met food producers, commercial logistics executives, several trade unions, and even the African Union! What was supposed to be a two-day holiday for me turned into our biggest sales event of the year. Huge thanks to Dr. LKAIHAL Mhamed, Mohamed Nacer Allah Lkaihal, their team, and the show organizers for going so far above and beyond to welcome me to Africa and Morocco. My closing keynote tomorrow is titled "Navigating the Path between Data Overload and Data Insights." With an average of 39 different parties touching each international shipment, and an average of 150-200 paper documents required for each, the opportunity for mistakes, malfeasance, and product loss can be super high. The solution? Cellular IoT that inexpensively captures volumes of real-time location and environmental data — and predictive and prescriptive algorithms to reduce the data overload. Prescriptive analytics in particular can minimize the overwhelm generated by too many dashboards, logins, spreadsheets, and reports. I've never had so many people in a tradeshow booth before, nor so many sit-down meetings at one event, with executives and dignitaries from countries all over Africa. But also excited to go home and get some rest before the next show: the EU Silk Road Summit in Vienna, November 26-28!

Those of you who have been following us from the beginning know that we got into the business of cargo visibility primarily to REDUCE FOOD WASTE. Our customer use cases have since grown to include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and soon, chemicals. But as someone who grew up without many food choices as a kid, reducing industrial-scale #foodwaste remains a core part of my personal mission. But building a more sustainable, resilient, & inclusive food system requires system-wide action and some really great partners — like ReFED, a global think tank focused on reducing food waste. That’s why I’m excited to be speaking at the ReFED #FoodWasteSummit24 in Baltimore starting TOMORROW, to look at what we can do to stop moving container after container after container of nutritious food from farms or the sea, directly into landfills. ?????? Today on #internationalwomensday, I'd like to introduce you to an #author who has inspired me since I was a child. A creative and prolific playwright, author, poet, and teacher, in her twenties Gertrude Pratt wrote and produced several stage productions, targeted specifically at her favorite audience: children. Tragedy struck at age 28, when she contracted a mysterious disease. By the tender age of 32, Trudy was completely paralyzed from the neck down, raising four kids while confined to a wheelchair. She and her husband travelled to specialists all across the United States looking for a cure. Doctors everywhere were completely confounded by this unknown malady. Years later, they would give it a term: Multiple Sclerosis. I struggle to imagine the breathtaking frustration, anguish and disappointment such a cruel blow must have caused for someone so young, creative, active, and driven - to become trapped in their own body. But rather than giving up, she asked family to fashion a wooden pointer she could hold between her teeth, allowing her to painstakingly type, letter by letter, on a manual typewriter. Patiently tapping away, Trudy ended up producing another 14 plays, 7 short stories, two books of poetry, and a 300-page autobiography — doggedly using only a stick held between her teeth. Since childhood, Trudy's lifelong dream had been to become a published author. Despite this soul-crushing disability and the superhuman effort it took to overcome it, at age 65, her submissions to publishers were finally recognized. Her book, "The Emperor's Gift," was published in 1969. Trudy died less than a year later, when the complications of the disease became insurmountable. I used Trudy's example with my own daughters during their childhood. Because no matter what kind of profoundly challenging situation life throws at you, ones that threaten to stop you in your tracks — achieving your dreams is still possible. If Trudy could find a way to achieve her life goals despite full quadraplegia, surely her own great-granddaughters — my girls — could do so too. In 2016, in honor of Trudy, I scanned her 300 pages of manually-typed autobiography, inserted long-forgotten family photos alongside crucial moments of her life, edited, reformatted and published her book as a reprintable PDF. I now freely distribute this incredible story to members of our widespread family, so that someday, one of Trudy's great-great-great-great granddaughters might be inspired to overcome adversity — rather than giving up.
