This one's for all our fellow #AI policy wonks out there: "California AI working group draft report released." Slow down! There's enough for everyone. But seriously, there's good stuff in here. Happy weekend reading! https://lnkd.in/gV6ukyHW

We're hearing from a lot of writers outraged by what they're discovering in The Atlantic today. H/t to Alex Reisner. Don't get mad. Get active. Here's what you can do. https://lnkd.in/geHyBF7U

Alexa is using your voice and data to train Amazon's #AI models—and now Amazon has decided it won't let you opt out. This is why we're fighting for legal safeguards around AI: Corporate tech will grab everything until somebody says no. Want to protect your own voice, image, and data from being ingested and monetized by AI? Here's how to opt out on the platforms that allow it. https://lnkd.in/g34H8WS3

Big day in Sacramento for Rebecca Bauer-Kahan's AB 412, the AI Copyright Transparency Act. TCAI's Jai Jaisimha joined RBK and SAG-AFTRA's Joely Fisher to speak on behalf of the bill, which would give copyright holders a way to find out if their property has been used to train an AI model. Lots of supporters showed up, including The Authors Guild, National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA), Writers Guild of America West, Concept Art Association, the Teamsters, and the California Labor Federation. Let's keep the momentum rolling! https://lnkd.in/gafmMa3m

A dramatically revised version of #TRAIGA, the Texas Responsible AI Governance Act, was filed on Friday in Austin. The new bill is so different it was given an entirely new number, now HB 149. We combed the fine print and compiled this overview. Revisions of note: * Mostly covers government AI systems, not commercial products. * Requires proof of intent to discriminate or cause harm. "Disparate impact alone is not sufficient." * Disclosure of AI use still required, but only by government agencies. https://lnkd.in/gZySWqDR

President Trump has expressed a desire to craft a national AI policy that allows American technology companies to thrive and succeed against global competition. We believe the highest-quality datasets and processes will allow American entrepreneurs to build the highest-quality AI systems. Here's our response. https://lnkd.in/gZDyhtp4

New York State legislators are jumping into the fight for #AI transparency and security. Kudos to Assemblymember Alex Bores, Assemblymember Clyde Vanel, and Sen. Kristen Gonzalez for authoring bills that foster innovation and protect the people of New York. https://lnkd.in/g7iVJBxF

Great overview of AI bills in Sacramento this year from Khari Johnson at CalMatters this morning. He's one of the few reporters to capture the dynamic: Lawmakers introduce AI bills, they get assigned to committees, then the bills get revised and rewritten by the tech companies. As David Evan Harris says: “The tech companies depend on nobody watching that happen.” We're watching, and supporting the legislators who fight through the tech lobby's massive spend to serve all Californians, not just the billionaires. https://lnkd.in/gM7twEF5

“AI developers have a duty of care that’s no different than any other manufacturer,” says Transparency Coalition co-founder Rob Eleveld. “If you sell a product, you have a duty of care to make sure people aren’t harmed by that product.” We've built a bill tracker to follow all the state-level AI liability bills currently in play.
