Miami-Dade is making strides toward a more connected, efficient, and commuter-friendly future with a crucial $40 million investment in the Northeast Corridor Rapid Transit Project. This funding brings us one step closer to securing the $389.5 million federal grant needed to bring this transformative project to life. The Northeast Corridor will connect MiamiCentral (Downtown) to West Aventura, with new stations in Wynwood, Design District, Little Haiti, North Miami, and FIU North Campus. Trains will run 19 hours a day, 7 days a week, with service every 30 minutes during peak hours. This is a key part of the SMART Plan, which aims to build an 85-mile commuter rail system linking Miami-Dade to Broward and Palm Beach! Why should you care as a Miami-Dade resident? ?? Less traffic congestion – More reliable transit options mean fewer cars on the road. ?? Sustainable growth – Reduced emissions and a step toward a greener Miami. ??? Economic boost – Easier commutes attract business, talent, and tourism. What’s Next? This $40 million investment brings us one step closer to breaking ground and transforming how Miami-Dade moves. But we must continue advocating for smart, sustainable transit solutions that meet the needs of our growing community. ?? Every Metrorail trip, Metrobus ride, and Metromover journey in #OurCounty starts with people — dedicated teams working together to make it all possible. On this #TransitEmployeeAppreciationDay, we’re celebrating everyone who keeps our system moving: the operators at the controls, the cleaners who keep our spaces welcoming, the dispatchers, planners, and customer service team who help riders navigate their day. And behind the scenes, there are so many others — facilities staff, safety inspectors, trainers, fleet technicians, mechanics, and administrative teams — all working to keep everything safe, reliable, and ready for our community. Your hard work connects thousands to opportunity and keeps Miami-Dade moving forward. Thank you for all that you do. ?? #TransitEmployeeAppreciationDay #GoMiamiDade

Dadeland is one of Miami’s most connected transit hubs, served by the Miami Metrorail and the new South Dade Transitway. But does the built environment actually support transit riders, pedestrians, and cyclists? ???? Yesterday, we kicked off our walking tour series in Dadeland to assess whether Miami’s transit-oriented developments (TODs) truly serve the people who rely on them. ???? ???? ??What we found on the tour was eye-opening: Long crosswalk waits, missing sidewalks and bike lanes, high speed limits, and a lack of shade turn what should be a simple, convenient walk into a challenge. Accessibility gaps impact everyone, from daily commuters to those with mobility challenges, making it clear that proximity to transit alone isn’t enough! Public spaces should reflect the needs of the people who use them. Community input is critical in shaping a built environment that prioritizes safety, comfort, and accessibility. Just as importantly, planners, engineers, architects, and elected officials must experience these spaces firsthand—walking the streets, crossing intersections, and feeling what works (and what doesn’t). This is just the beginning of a broader effort to rethink Miami’s built environment. When we design for people, not just cars, we create places where communities thrive! Where should we go next? Comment below to let us know and stay tuned for more this fun day! #MiamiTOD #miamiurbanliving #UrbanPlanning #dadeland #miamitransit #miamitransportation #transitorienteddevelopment
