Helping people transition from homelessness to housing.

关于我们

Transition Projects provides individuals with the services, resources and tools they need to end their homelessness, secure housing, and maintain that housing. - Each year, we assist more than 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. - On any given day, we help meet the basic needs of more than 700 people through our Day Center. - On any given night, we provide a safe place to sleep for more than 800 people with nowhere else to turn. - In any given year, we help place more than 800 people into affordable housing - and then support them in retaining that housing. Whenever and wherever we can, we advocate for policies and initiatives that affirm the right of all people to a place they can call home. Want to join our team of passionate changemakers? A note from our Chief Executive Officer, Tony Bernal: The road ahead will be harder but we can still make progress. A lesson from Florynce Kennedy, the lawyer and activist, who taught us "Don’t agonize, organize." Let’s go to work.

I’m going to say a few words about the election and its impact on our work, and then I will offer a lesson. ? Tuesday’s election results have profound implications for the work of housing justice. The agenda that prevailed at the federal level threatens to cut housing budgets, criminalize homelessness, and target the people that we serve. In the coming months, everything will be harder. There will be less help from the federal government for the people who need it the most. ? You likely already knew this. The lesson that I offer you comes from Florynce Kennedy, the lawyer and activist, who taught: Don’t agonize, organize. ? The road ahead will be harder but we can still make progress. ? There are groups in your community today advancing housing justice. Make a donation to them and volunteer. My favorite is my own Transition Projects, but there are so many good choices. ? Don’t agonize, organize. Sign up for emails and advocacy alerts from the National Low Income Housing Coalition. They will tell you when to call your elected officials to support legislation. ? Sign up for the advocacy alerts and emails from the National Alliance to End Homelessness too. ? Don’t agonize, organize. Support candidates for office who support a housing agenda. Despite the grim news with the federal elections, we made some good progress locally in the Portland metro region with new elected officials who support housing as a solution. ? We do not have the luxury of despair. Let’s go to work.

This year, we've set an ambitious goal of $115,000 to help more people by expanding our services. And we need your support to meet our goal! Be sure to follow our social channels for details on the Big Give Days — special days when your donations can have an even greater impact. On these days, every donation of $10 or more comes with the chance to win exclusive prizes like getaways, concerts, shopping sprees, and more. Voting Access is Essential! Did you know that Transition Projects offers mail services for our community facing homelessness? At our Resource Center, Sam (pictured) Transition Projects' Mail & Information Specialist, connects nearly 3,000 individuals with mail service. This is a crucial resource year-round and especially during elections. We believe that everyone in our community deserves the right to vote — ensuring we have an inclusive democracy. More information for voters experiencing homelessness at www.tprojects.org/voting Cast your vote by November 5! Ballots must be received or mailed with a valid postmark by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Today is World Homelessness Day and we believe that housing is a human right. More than 6,000 people in Portland people face homelessness every night, and three in five people experiencing homelessness are living unsheltered. Last year, Transition Projects provided 3,154 individuals a safe bed inside at one of our eight shelters — which accounts for one-third of all people sheltered in Multnomah County. On top of that, our team placed 894 people into affordable housing! Helping people secure — and retain — permanent housing is the ultimate goal of our work. There is still plenty of work to do, but it is clear that when we have housing resources, we can increase the number of people transitioning from shelters into housing. ?? SSVF Funding Renewed! ?? We are excited to receive funding once again for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) funded grant through Veterans Affairs. In the last year, our Veterans Services team housed 349 Veteran households (comprised of 607 individuals)! SSVF provides case management and supportive services for low-income veterans and is designed to promote housing stability. These grants have been awarded to select non-profit organizations across the U.S. that assist low-income Veteran families who are residing in or transitioning to permanent housing. The SSVF program began in 2012, and Transition Projects has received the grant each year since. Our team includes case managers along with specialists working on income development, benefits, wellness access, and outreach and engagement. Transition Projects was excited to attend the Day of Dignity last weekend! It was a great event that has numerous agencies offering free food, supplies, medical services, resources, and haircuts for our community facing homelessness. Overall, we interacted with several hundred participants and community partners, and our Outreach team was able to engage with 84 individuals experiencing homelessness.?
