The Chair of the Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) David Russell has written a blog for UKSIF arguing that whilst it is important for investors to decarbonise their portfolios, this often results in the asset being sold on and has little impact in the real world. Investors now are thinking more about forward looking metrics, asking where companies will be in future. Tools like the Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) are helping with this; read the piece at https://lnkd.in/e_hVUNUB

Many thanks to Jo Paisley at Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) Risk Institute for hosting the webcast: How to Access a Company’s Transition Progress: Tools and Insights from the Transition Pathway Initiative Centre. Building on the TPI State of Transition report 2024 (https://lnkd.in/d8wy_NKJ), Prof. Simon Dietz at the Transition Pathway Initiative Centre (TPI Centre) at LSE reviewed research and data resources available to support investors, risk professionals and many more. Edward Baker at LGPS Central, an asset owner supporter of Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) , explained why and how investors use the TPI tool: a source of insight, supporting engagements and raising standards across the data service providers on climate. He gave a specific use case in which his team had discussed with a bank for its portfolio emissions (for banking assessments conducted by the TPI Centre, visit https://lnkd.in/e8qBK-km). ??? Visit the TPI tool at https://lnkd.in/g9AyyKRk ??? The recording will be made available at https://lnkd.in/eni2_Pqz. A special thanks to Tom Strachan at GARP Risk Institute!

How do investors stay focused on integrating #ClimateRisks into their investment decision-making? What are the recurring issues when we assess the oil & gas and diversified mining companies? These are some of the questions that will be posed to the panellists at our webinar, Transition planning and the route to net zero in the oil & gas and diversified mining sectors: https://lnkd.in/e24bdXiA The #oil & #gas (O&G) and diversified #mining companies are some of the largest extractive companies globally. The O&G sector alone contributes to more than 50% of energy-related global emissions, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Come and join our webinar as the panellists discuss how to make progress in #TransitionPlanning within the O&G and diversified mining sectors, building on key findings from the TPI Centre’s Net Zero Standards (#NZS) assessments (https://lnkd.in/eYCS7KvR). ?? How are transport firms aligning their emissions trajectories with the goals of the #ParisAgreement? The latest #CarbonPerformance data for the world’s largest #airline, #auto and #shipping companies are now available on the #TPITool (https://lnkd.in/eH_KvmDX). This update covers 89 companies* in the transport cluster, including: ?? 34 airlines: https://lnkd.in/eE2kuBA8 ?? 25 autos: https://lnkd.in/e6qyEh_C ?? 30 shipping companies: https://lnkd.in/edeECG_S The transport sector remains a critical focus for global #decarbonisation efforts. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) (https://lnkd.in/dvnE3z_q), the sector accounted for nearly 8 Gt CO2 in 2022, making up 22% of global energy-related CO2 emissions. The methodology by the Transition Pathway Initiative Centre (TPI Centre) at LSE assesses historical and projected greenhouse gas (#GHG) emissions of these companies and compares them with low-carbon benchmarks for each sub-sector. The Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) is supported by over 150 asset owners and asset managers globally. Its research and data are produced by the TPI Centre at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the academic partner of the initiative. ? * These assessments cover TPI companies outside the Climate Action 100+ (CA100+) universe, allowing earlier publication of results. This ensures investors have up-to-date data well ahead of the typical Q3 publication of CA100+ company assessments. #NetZero #ClimateFinance #ClimateRisks #TransitionFinance
