It'd be a sacred deal for you to join us for our next Transforming Chaplaincy webinar. Caring for Hospitalized Patients: Introducing the Sacred Moments Initiative Tuesday, March 25, 1-2 PM (Central Time) ????? https://lnkd.in/gTwiSnuk Recent #research has elucidated how master clinicians connect with hospitalized patients, and the role that teamwork and effective communication (including experiencing #sacred moments) can have in improving patient care. Studies in various settings reveal that many healthcare professionals have experienced sacred moments, which include feelings of deep personal connection and awe. These experiences may be associated with a renewed sense of vocation and resilience. In this webinar Dr. Sanjay Saint will describe his research on improving the care hospitalized patients receive, the role sacred moments may have in the hospital setting, and the development of the Sacred Moments Initiative. He will be joined by Dr. Kenneth Pargament who will discuss the importance of sacred moments. Presenters -Sanjay Saint, MD, MPH, MACP, Chief of Medicine, VA Ann Arbor. George Dock Professor of Medicine, University of Michigan -Kenneth I. Pargament, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Psychology, Bowling Green State University Moderator: George Fitchett, DMin, PhD, Senior Advisor, Transforming Chaplaincy Advancing #spiritual care through research. #chaplain

Another Transforming Chaplaincy Research Short Course is just around the corner! You’ve asked for more in-depth training on Spiritual Assessment and we are answering. Learn directly from Dr. George Fitchett at Dirk Labuschagne through this live 4-hour short course! *This course now has a Waitlist - please email Cate Beaulieu-Desjardins, MDiv, MPH, BCC at [email protected] to be placed on a waitlist. If there is significant further interest, we will plan a second offering of this in the Fall! The PC-7 and ONC-5 Demystified: Hands-On Training in Quantifiable Spiritual Assessment for Chaplains April 24, 12-4 PM Central Time ???Over the past 5 years we have developed two new models for spiritual assessment; the PC-7 for use in adult palliative care and the ONC-5 for use in adult cancer care. Both models yield a quantified assessment of the intensity of patient's spiritual concerns. In the short course we will describe the background and research associated with the PC-7 and the ONC-5. We will then guide participants through the assessment of a case for each model. Short course participants will be ready to begin to use the models in their clinical practice.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who attended my PhD dissertation defense at Rush University. Your presence, support, and thoughtful engagement meant the world to me. For those who weren’t able to join, I’m excited to share the recording here! In my dissertation, I explored the systemic challenges in healthcare chaplaincy education and proposed a new framework centered on integration, specialization, and standardization. My research explored: ?? Early-career healthcare chaplains – Assessing how well their education prepared them for professional practice. ?? Healthcare chaplaincy hiring managers – Identifying the key knowledge, skills, and attitudes they prioritize when hiring new chaplains. ?? Expert consensus on curriculum standards – Developing a comprehensive set of standardized competencies that integrate both academic and clinical education to ensure consistency and effectiveness in chaplaincy training. This work was made possible through the generous support of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education) and their 2023 Research and Innovation Grant, as well as the incredible backing of Transforming Chaplaincy. Their commitment to advancing chaplaincy research and education is shaping the future of our profession. I hope this research sparks further conversation and action toward strengthening and standardizing healthcare chaplaincy education. Thank you to my dissertation committee, my mentors, and everyone who has supported me on this journey! ?? I’d love to hear your thoughts—feel free to comment or reach out. And if you find this work valuable, please share it with your network!

Article (Open Access): A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Compassion-Centered Spiritual Health Intervention to Improve Hospital Inpatient Outcomes. ?? ?? https://lnkd.in/gzsZXdj3 Kim Palmer, a former Transforming Chaplaincy research fellow, was an integral part of an Emory University team (Jennifer Mascaro, Marcia J Ash, Marianne P Florian, Deanna Kaplan, Roman Palitsky, Steven P Cole, Maureen Jenci Shelton, Charles Raison, George H. Grant, PhD) conducting this study. This randomized controlled trial involved CCSH? (Compassion-Centered Spiritual Health), an intervention applying insights from Cognitively-Based #Compassion Training (CBCT), to improve patient outcomes. The data suggest that for inpatients who received CCSH, patient depression decreased, in part due to CCSH-trained #chaplains' use of more inclusive, confident, and other-oriented language. Keep advancing #spiritual care through #research.

Was it the luck of the ??? In the process of gathering for Transforming Chaplaincy (TC) planning meetings toward advancing #spiritual care through #research, an ice ?? game broke out.
