?? 2024 wrapped up on a high note at TRANSFORM VC's AGM in Silicon Valley—a frontier in the impact investment space. This year’s theme, “Mind the Gap,” focused on addressing critical gaps in social needs and environmental ?? challenges through deeptech solutions. I had the privilege of moderating the Foundational AI Gap panel with AI pioneers Amr Awadallah Founder & CEO of Vectara & Mohamed Amer, Founder & CEO of Claryo, Inc. Key takeaways: ?? Despite AI’s rapid growth, there's still consumer hesitation about AI making life-changing decisions without human oversight. ?? AI is reshaping industries at an unprecedented speed and scale. By 2030, AI will contribute $15 trillion to the global economy. ?? Trust and fairness are key issues—AI systems often generate confident outputs, but biases, limitations, and “hallucinations” (false information) pose risks. ?? As AI increasingly underpins critical smart infrastructure across sectors like education, healthcare, and justice, we must ensure its ethical, equitable implementation to benefit society responsibly. ?? We also explored the importance of integrating physical AI in tandem to enterprise AI to create more holistic, scalable solutions that work both in the digital and physical worlds. ?? We also had the opportunity to discuss key insights from our Healthtech Working Group: ?? There’s a growing need for startups focusing on improving patient outcomes, especially for underserved groups like the elderly and women’s health. ?? The care economy, worth $11 trillion in the US, and is rapidly expanding due to an ageing population and declining caregiver numbers. ?? We need more innovations in cognitive care and companionship for elderly patients. ?? Women’s health is a pressing issue—80% of autoimmune diseases affect women, who also spend 25% more time in poor health than men. ?? We also explored ways to create more opportunities for female and underrepresented founders, as they are disproportionately affected by these social challenges. A special thanks to Raed A. I've always had two parallel tracks - one with physics, math, data science, AI, and another with nonprofit volunteering wanting to make a social impact. Honored to be a fellow at Transform VC where the two tracks meet, where the mission is to use deep tech to make a social and climate impact. Being around amazing people like Rama Chakaki and Raed A. Masri, other fellows and interns and founders at Transform fills me with hope for 2025 and beyond.
