As a new art collector, I started by appreciating beautiful pieces from afar and learning more about different mediums - oil on canvas, clay, digital, etc. Over the years, I fell in love with some pieces I connected with, regardless of their value. I believe that this is what art SHOULD be - accessible, personal, appreciated, and shared. I'm super excited to be a cohost of this event next month in Marfa, TX, with my good friend, Ismail Tazi S! When we (Shondra Washington, Megan Holston-Alexander, Judene Small Jean-Louis, Lance Davis, and myself) started the Black Digital Art Collective, we wanted to focus on collecting dope Black art, highlighting and showcasing our artists, as well as introducing more artists to digital mediums like NFTs. This opportunity to collaborate with TRAME Paris and Ledger is a full circle for me as I have several of their pieces in my home, as I am trying to incorporate art into more parts of my life - from wall decor to diningware. If you're in Marfa next month for Art Blocks Inc. Marfa Weekend, pull up! Register here: https://lu.ma/cq8rz8c7 (some of my favorite TRAME Paris pieces are below, along with the first piece of art I had commissioned by Camille Elyse Jones, PhD, MPH!)

We were proud to lend our support the second annual Institut du monde arabe's Design Awards, which showcase exceptionally talented designers from the Arab world.?TRAME Paris Founder?Ismail Tazi S?spoke at the design ceremony, voicing support for the winning talents, chosen by a prestigious panel of jurors which was chaired this year by Lebanese furniture designer Nada Debs. The Institut?du monde arabe Design Awards offers "a contemporary interpretation of the Arab world’s exceptional art of living through the prism of design" and showcases the creative genius of the region's best, from emerging, established & entrepreneurial design categories. The theme of this year's event, ARABOFUTURS, provided a path for "questioning current societies and exploring the fault lines of our immediate future" through the lens of science fiction. The 2024 winners represented a diversity of regions including Egypt, Lebanon, Sudan, Palestine, Morocco, Algeria, Qatar, Bahrain, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. TRAME is proud to present (_elemental), a series of artistic furnishings by Justin Aversano and Penzo?fusing ART, DESIGN, & TECH, and inspired by natural elements—fire, wind, and water. In these pieces, Aversano’s artwork has been transformed through a custom-coded algorithm developed by Enrico Penzo and powered by Art Blocks Inc. Engine. Penzo's algorithm abstracts the original works into unique landscapes by simulating the movements of flames, wind, and water ripples. The coded artworks are then digitally printed onto fabric and fibers for the final products, which include a Chesterfield settee, two area rugs, and cushions for a beech wood bench. The simulated FIRE element moves through Aversano’s Ali & Gilli Glatt photograph from his acclaimed series, Twin Flames. The long, feathery strokes of this design mimic the upward movement of flames, and have been printed on fabric for bench cushions. WIND transforms Aversano's Temperance work, from his collection Physical Tarot Scroll 4/5. Algorithmically coded brush strokes move horizontally, characterized by large bristles to give a sensation of rushing movement. These designs are printed onto large-scale area carpets. WATER is captured in Aversano's work Cognition # 1, from his series Free Insight. Penzo's algorithm simulates ripples using repetitive brush strokes, resembling a distorted image as seen through raindrops on a window. This design, printed on fabric, is showcased on a Chesterfield settee. The (_elemental) furnishings will be exhibited alongside INTRO-SPECTIVE, Justin Aversano’s photographic exhibition on display at the Francisco Carolinum Linz Museum?in Austria, from 9/4/24-1/12/25. ?? Last year, in collaboration with TRAME Paris and Club CPG, we unveiled the first collection of Craft Nouveau: "Navette" by artist Alexis André. This series features loom-woven tapestries corresponding to their unique digital artwork. Generative art unlocks endless possibilities for expression in the physical world, and "Navette" exemplifies this beautifully. It feels like just yesterday that we went to Venice together and now the Portraits mirrors are out in the world. ???Looking forward to continuing to explore new frontiers with you, Martin Grasser!
I have a fascination with typography, type design, language, and art. For some time now, I have been working on different ways to share how beautiful and magical letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs can be when we look at them right. ‘Portraits’ is a recent and ongoing(!) project that sits somewhere between type design, abstract art, and furniture. In short, it is a collection of handcrafted Venetian glass mirrors made from text. Each character of a piece of text is translated into a color and shape, and in written order, layered upon each other. Why a mirror? A mirror is exact in its reflection. It shows what is there—no preconceptions, no comments. But add language to the mix. Language is slippery, and can mean many things all at once. What we end up with is a dialogue between viewer and mirror that encompasses hidden meaning, form, color, and fragmented reflections. I invite you to take a word, name, or phrase that has meaning to you; to create art with it; and to stand before it, contemplating your reflection in the context of your personal message. Try our algorithm here... the site is still a work in progress, but good enough to share. https://lnkd.in/guCnmmsm If you make something please share it - it is fun for us to see! Navette fuses a digital generative process and a physical loom, becoming a voyage between the worlds, a shuttle weaving between the two.?
