In a world of accelerating technological progress and big cultural shifts, "The Future of Work" has become more of a catchphrase than a concrete idea. So when investors or journalists throw it around, my eyes glaze over. Don't yours?
But here's the thing: there isn't anything dull about the past, current or future state of "work" (as defined by the proto-agricultural practices of our sweet, culty Paleolithic ancestors. Shout out to anyone who has read "The Chalice and the Blade" and obsessed over dominator vs partnership models of productivity!!!)
The TL;DR is that artificial intelligence is here, AGI on our doorstep and the power tug of war of suits screaming for a return to office and flip flops shouting back "so, stop me!" is a little yawn and missing the plot.
"The Future of Work" will be transformative, wild, dystopian, utopian, ALL THE THINGS! And the shift in how we define work, value work, charge for work, relate to work will lead to the underpinnings of what my friend Professor?Brigitte Seim calls "Social Cohesion." Societal glue.
Why does this matter to an early-stage VC?
At?TMV , we're developing an understanding for what an AI centric, optimistic lens on the future could look like. Working title "Work in Progress," and we're actively placing bets on the?most?ambitious companies building a nice vision of our shared future.
Our investment thesis centers on entrepreneurs coding scalable, AI-native solutions to address modern work-life challenges with a lens toward the common good.
Specifically, we're backing companies that:
- Are led by the right teams (Anthropic)???
- Creating net-positive outcomes in stodgy and costly industries (Weave, Resultid.ai) ??
- Support the sustainable growth of indie workers (Topline Pro)?????♀?
- Aid workplace burnout (In-House Health, Tali AI, Clockwise) ????
As work becomes increasingly independent yet AI-dependent, founders need partners (????? ?) who inherently understand the civil shifts in play as well as the money-making opportunities.
At?TMV , we're not only observers of "the coming wave" —we're eager beta participants, who believe in the upside of what partnership models and a reduction of task-based, time consuming efforts could lead to...
Enhancing human capability, creativity and output to make room for caring for ourselves and others is worth fighting for. That's our stance.
The call-to-action is to ask founders building at the intersection of AI and good to look us up. [email protected] - pre-seed through Series A, dry powder, deploying now. Or share thoughts below.
