关于我们
Founded in 1988 by Clem Labine, founder of Old House Journal, Traditional Building is the only magazine that focuses on traditional design in public and residential architecture. The magazine and the website are read by architects, contractors, facility managers, developers, artisans and interior designers. Our articles highlight historic preservation, adaptive re-use and new traditional design for commercial, institutional and government buildings – as well as civic spaces and landscapes. Product guides, articles and photo galleries provide the latest information on how to specify and locate historically inspired products such as windows, doors, lighting, columns, hardware and related services. In addition, noted authors and designers discuss current professional issues, such as conflicts between modernism and traditional design as they affect architecture and urban design. Energy efficiency, sustainability and successful urban design are also important topics of discussion. Publisher: Peter H. Miller, Hon. These are strange and unaccountable days. The most misunderstood, the most unpopular—perhaps even the most reviled—architectural movement of the twentieth century is on the cusp of a revival. Re-appraised by the old guard and embraced by a younger generation apparently unfazed by its excesses, brutalism is enjoying a cultural moment.

At first glance, you might be fooled into thinking that two-year-old J.W. Heist Steakhouse has been around since the first half of the 20th century. Exposed brick, antique light fixtures, burnished wood, and saddle-soft leather contribute to the feeling of authenticity necessary for the restaurant’s imagined backstory, which is based on the true tale of Joseph Walter Heist, the great-grandfather of restaurant cofounder Brett Evje. The design of the restaurant unfolded from a combination of this cowboy legend and the 21st-century concept of wood-fired dining, far removed from heating up beans over a campfire.
