A building trades pre-apprenticeship program changed Alexis Rowberry’s life. “My daughter stopped and looked at me the other day and she said, ‘Mom, you know what? I am so proud of you. You have come so far.’ Oh my gosh, we cried.” https://lnkd.in/g5k6y8wJ?

Congratulations to the winners of the Daily DeWalt Toolkit Giveaway! Check out their stories below! Zachery Tomalonis – Ironworker, IW Local 15 Zachery was inspired by his late brother, who encouraged him to pursue a career as an ironworker. With determination and the support of his union brotherhood, Zachery has overcome challenges, including a health diagnosis, and developed a deep pride in his trade. His advice? “Show up, work hard, and take pride in what you do. The sense of accomplishment is unmatched.” Moriah McDowell – Apprentice, IBEW Local 35 Moriah began her journey in the trades by welding with BTTI and is now thriving as an electrical apprentice. She’s breaking barriers as a woman in a male-dominated field and remains motivated by the rewarding experiences of her first year. Her message to others? “Don’t give up when it gets hard—the rewards are worth it!” Kathleen Moreno – Sheet Metal Worker, SMART Local 2 Kathleen found her path to the trades through Local 2 at a Pride Festival, drawn by the wages, benefits, and free education. Starting her career shortly after chemotherapy, she pushed through challenges with patience and determination. One of her proudest moments was working on a crane pick with one of the Midwest’s largest cranes. Her advice? “Stand out, learn, and make your mark!” Nick Bruhn – Apprentice, IBB Local 433 Nick credits his older brother’s example as the inspiration for pursuing a career as a boilermaker. As an apprentice, Nick emphasizes safety and teamwork to navigate the challenges of a tough environment. His proudest moment was passing his first welding test, which boosted his confidence. He encourages others to “work hard, be patient, and prove to yourself that you can succeed!” #naw2024

Yesterday, in partnership with Building Futures | Apprenticeship RI, we announced a new Apprenticeship Readiness Program for recent high school graduates and young adults, reinforcing our commitment to expanding pathways into skilled trades. ? The announcement was made as part of ???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ????????, a nationwide celebration to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship for strengthening the economy by developing a highly skilled workforce to meet industry needs, creating pathways for career seekers to catapult into good jobs, and advancing racial and gender equity. ? With the support of a $250,000?workforce investment from the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (RI-DLT), the college will begin offering apprenticeship readiness programming in January through the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3), a comprehensive apprenticeship readiness curriculum developed by the North America's Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and TradesFutures that delivers an industry-recognized credential. The $250,000 RI-DLT grant will support three cohorts of MC3 and the creation of an academic, credit-bearing program.

One of the hardest jobs is being a parent, especially when juggling a career and childcare. The financial and mental strain can be overwhelming. Recognizing this challenge, TradesFutures launched a Child Care Pilot program to make childcare more accessible for tradespeople. In partnership with Nontraditional Employment for Women in New York, NY, and empowHER - Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, this initiative helps ease the burden—enabling apprentices to focus on building their futures while ensuring their children are cared for in safe, high-quality environments. Meet a few of these incredible apprentices who are balancing it all and creating better futures for their families! #NAW2024
