We continue with our celebration of Public Service Recognition Week by honoring the fabulous employees of the Smithfield Police Department. Their unwavering dedication, courage, and commitment to serving and protecting our community makes a profound impact on all of our lives.?From ensuring safety on the streets to lending a helping hand in times of need, they are the true embodiment of selfless heroism. You will see our officers patrolling our streets and waterways, partnering with business owners, mentoring our youth, supporting local events, giving back to our community (Operation Angel Tree and Food Drives in support of Christian Outreach just to name a couple), hosting a community National Night Out and so much more than can be named here!!!!?They can even be seen dancing at the Sweetheart Ball and participating in the Polar Plunge! The Smithfield Police Department is also an accredited agency through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) and has been since the year 2000. Kudos to our Accreditation Manager and the entire staff! Please join us in applauding the Smithfield Police Department’s tireless efforts in keeping our beautiful Town safe and secure.?Let’s show our appreciation for their hard work and sacrifice! Today, we continue with our celebration of Public Service Recognition Week by honoring the amazing employees of the Public Works & Utilities Department.? ? These employees go above and beyond whether it is hot, cold, or raining outside to ensure the Town’s utilities, grounds, and public buildings are properly maintained and to make repairs as needed.?They cut grass, maintain flower beds, maintain & repair the pump stations, repair water leaks, mark water and sewer lines for Miss Utility, perform general building repairs, work with contractors, and even hang our annual holiday decorations!?They also conduct Fats, Oils, & Grease (FOG) inspections, inspect construction sites, and make sure our Town’s drinking water is safe for consumption.?This small and mighty team performs so many other functions that we cannot list them all.?Sometimes we say that if you don’t call the Police Department, call the Public Works & Utilities Department!? ? Also….If you aren’t aware, our Public Works & Utilities Department is accredited through the American Public Works Association thanks to the hard work of our Accreditation Manager who is supported by the rest of the team! ? The Town is very fortunate to have such a dedicated team of professionals that truly care about the Town and its citizens! If you see them around Town, please thank them for what they do.? ? THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE PUBLIC WORKS & UTILITIES TEAM FOR ALL OF THE WORK THAT YOU DO.?WE APPRECIATE YOU EACH AND EVERY DAY!

This dedicated team works tirelessly (and often behind the scenes) to ensure our parks are beautiful, our event venues are in tip top shape with your perfect set up, and greet you with a smile each day! They take pride to ensure everyone has a memorable experience whether they are playing at Luter Sports Complex, taking a walk on the trails at Windsor Castle Park, or planning the wedding or event of their dreams at the Smithfield Center or Windsor Castle Manor House!
