#ParkerProud — Parker Town Manager Michelle Kivela has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2024 League of Women in Government Leadership Trailblazer Award. “Of the amazing nominees from across the country, the judges felt these 10 finalists best captured the spirit of the award,” League of Women in Government President Susan Thorpe said. “Being recognized as a Top 10 Finalist is a wonderful tribute to these remarkable leaders. “ The Leadership Trailblazer Award recognizes an accomplished woman who is a leader in the local government profession and has inspired other women to achieve executive-level positions. This year’s honor will be awarded to an accomplished local government woman who has demonstrated leadership excellence and has mentored and championed other women within the profession. Nominations were submitted primarily by local government professionals who wanted to see a dedicated colleague recognized nationally. A panel of judges reviewed each nomination and selected the top 10 finalists. “I’ve seen the women who have been nominated for this award in the past, and I have been so impressed with the caliber and quality of the women we have in this profession,” Kivela said. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be recognized for doing what I feel is an obligation of my position as a female leader. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to reciprocate the support and mentoring I’ve received throughout the years and connect with future generations of female leaders.” Kivela, Parker’s Town Manager since 2017, has more than 30 years of municipal government experience in a wide variety of capacities and positions. Prior to joining the Town of Parker in 2012, she served as the Deputy City Manager for the City of Lone Tree for seven years. She also has held positions with the City of Greenwood Village, the City of Sugar Land, Texas, and the Town of Addison, Texas. The League of Women in Government is the only national group representing women in local government. It serves as the umbrella organization for state and regional groups that support local and statewide initiatives that advance women to local government leadership. The 2024 Leadership Trailblazer Award will be announced at the Women’s #SheLeadsGov luncheon held in conjunction with the annual International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Sept. 23.
