In February, the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) recorded a score of 45.5, a decline from January with more firms seeing a decrease in billings. While economic conditions were generally positive in February, concerns over tariffs contributed to a drop in new project inquiries. Last month, firm leaders were asked about the most important factors in determining their level of profitability and 63% indicated that strong client relationships were their most important factor in recent years. In January, the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) recorded a score of 45.6, a slight improvement from December with fewer firms seeing a decrease in billings. While work is steady in some areas, uncertainty in the market is resulting in fewer projects moving forward. On the bright side, firms ended 2024 with strong hiring adding 2,200 new jobs in December, showing signs of confidence for the year ahead.
