We need to talk about Waymo. Wow. We've been impressed by the autonomous, driverless cars navigating San Francisco. Experiencing these driverless car rides has been a real eye opener to just how rapidly technological innovation and AI are evolving. Ordering a ride is effortless, you do it all through an app, and stepping into a Waymo feels welcoming, complete with serene, spa like music and polite automated greetings. The journey itself is smooth and reassuringly calm, and you don’t have to tip at the end!!! However, today's rush hour ride was revealing. Our Waymo encountered a blocked junction and, unlike human drivers who adapted quickly by moving around the offending (human) car, the Waymo patiently waited through two sets of traffic lights before it’s path was clear again to proceed... On this trip so far, I’m both mesmerised by how fast technology is progressing and being developed here in SF and am very aware at still the significant strides to be taken to sophisticate total reward and HR processes to stay with the pace of development. Despite incredible advancements, there's still a significant need for human intuition and problem-solving capabilities and the folk that we have met on this trip still say excel spreadsheets are King in comp! San Francisco ... we have arrived. We have had a frenetic first morning, meeting clients and finding a spare 30 mins to get the obligatory tram and Alcatraz photo's. The weather is great and so far "Karl the fog" is nowhere to be seen! A busy week ahead and if any of my network wants to connect for a coffee or glass of wine do msg me! Charlotte in… SAN FRANCISCO! Jamie and I are back in the skies and hitting the road on Monday, ready to connect with our Total Rewards network. After a handful of successful searches on the West Coast, we’re following where our network leads us, strengthening relationships, deepening partnerships and building new ones along the way. It’s been a while since I was last in this city. My only visit thus far was at 21 years old…. fresh-faced and soaking up a whistle-stop trip across the States on a post-graduation summer adventure (on a shoestring budget, I might add). I’m really looking forward to going back, both personally and professionally, and hoping for a nostalgic moment or two. Seeing the Painted Ladies, the Golden Gate Bridge and wandering through Chinatown are all on my list in between meets! And you can bet I’ll be making Jamie join me for some selfie pics where I can! Wow... what an evening! We hosted our first "Post Comp Round Blow out in NYC" last night in what we hope to become an annual flagship event in the NCY TR calendar! I always expect a reasonable drop out when organizing social events, but last night with over 50 leaders in attendance the room was bursting at the seams. The community spirit, fast flowing conversation, and collective appreciation for each other after a tough year end was really on display; people were having a great time and I was proud to have facilitated this. It was great to partner again with HRSoft and to be joined by Trusaic and Awardco, and the comp themed cocktails of "The Golden Parachute" and the "Vesting Mule" dreamed up by Alex Miklin went down brilliantly. Great to have most of the team together flying the TRS flag for the evening. Here's to a busy year as the market really comes to life! There’s a running joke in our team that I’m the party pooper when it comes to TRS-branded merch or SWAG for our events. Do we really need more water bottles and notebooks in the world? ?
