🚒💦 Hydrant Flow Test in Action! 💦🚒 Our team performed a hydrant flow pressure test—a critical step in ensuring reliable fire protection. Using a Pitot gauge, we captured the velocity pressure of water discharging from the hydrant. This reading and static and residual pressure help us calculate the actual flow rate (GPM). ✅ Why does it matter? Accurate water flow data ensures fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and hydrants are ready when it counts most. Antifreeze loops protect areas in a building or outside a building that are prone to freezing. A check valve isolates the anti-freeze loop from the rest of the fire sprinkler system. There is also a main drain and a fill cup to assist in draining and refilling the loop. Antifreeze loops are filled with NFPA and Local ordinance-approved antifreeze solutions, either Propylene Glycol (PG) or Glycerin (GL). When a system is filled, the solution is pumped in through the fill cup or drain area. The solution is then locked into the area going to the protection by the check valve at the bottom of the loop. The fire pump flow test reveals the deterioration of the fire pump and measures the flow and pressure of the water supply. The test should be performed by attaching hoses to the discharge test header. The hoses are run to a safe location where the water flow will cause no damage. Pressure readings are taken as the pump is run through its various stages. HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU TEST A FIRE PUMP? According to the NFPA, fire pumps are flow tested after initial installation according to the field acceptance test procedure (NFPA 20). The pump test is then performed annually (NFPA 25). If the fire pump fails and cannot maintain the system’s water pressure during a fire, people and property are at risk. #fireprotection #firepumptest #fireandsafety #flowtest
