Today commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas on October 12, 1492. This day recognizes his voyages, which opened the way for the widespread European exploration and colonization of the Americas. It is also observed as Indigenous Peoples’ Day - a day of reflection honoring the history and contributions of Native American cultures.

Mr. Taro Shimada, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation, spoke at The Science and Technology in Society Forum 2024 (#STSforum), last week in Kyoto, Japan, with a focus on "Science and Technology for Business." He addressed three key areas to tackle social issues, including #climatechange and the uneven distribution of resources: achieving a #carbonneutral and #circulareconomy; building safe and inclusive infrastructure for everyone; and creating a connected data-driven society. He also emphasized that companies must be able to adapt to emerging #AI technologies as well as future developments.
