CONFERENCE WRAP-UP POST Last week’s Training magazine 2025 conference was outstanding … and a series of reminders of our shared humanity (yes, even amongst all the discussions of how AI is changing our roles!). Several of my super-hero friends made the trip directly from ATD TK25 in Las Vegas to Orlando to lead pre-con events at Training. That’s a lot of commitment to the profession, ?and a lot of toll on the body, to run back-to-back like that. Thank you all, and I hope you’ve been able to rest up. Your participants LOVE your energy & insights. Take care of yourself, friends. I did something I’ve never done before: a live recording of the Tangents with TorranceLearning, the podcast I co-host with Meg Fairchild. With Jeff Weaver at the controls in Orlando and producer Dean Castile in Michigan, we made it work! Meg & I talked about strategies for getting the most learning benefit from attending a conference and took some questions from the live audience. 5 microphones, 3 cities, about 20 minutes … we made it work! Tuesday night, Training Magazine hosted a reception to honor Judith Hale’s contributions to our industry. At 84, she is speaking, writing, leading a team and making a difference. Talk about a legacy. #LifeGoals Wednesday afternoon, I led a workshop co-created with Lauren Milstid, M.S. called Design for Change. While this session fits within our #LLAMA? Agile Project Management framework, the techniques we shared in this session apply to any learning design & development project. The premise is this: since we know that our projects are increasingly subject to all orts of change, we can proactively design the work and the deliverables – and the team members themselves -- to be resilient. What made this super fun is that we got to use a program that Lauren and I designed, our AI Driver’s Permit, as one of the case examples for the workshop since we knew going into it that everything about the course is subject to change in this fast paced early emergence period. One participant even gave us a straight-6s rating on a 5 point scale! 6?? 6?? 6?? 6?? 6?? Check out the participant guide for the Design for Change workshop here – it gives you a sneak peek into what we covered. https://lnkd.in/expMHatv DM me if you’re interested in a private session of Design for Change for your team. Check out the AI Driver’s Permit for yourself or your team here. https://lnkd.in/ezUjgcjY Listen to Tangents with TorranceLearning wherever you stream your finest podcasts. https://lnkd.in/gqDuMuHk #Training25 #podcast #Agile TorranceLearning Images: Megan Torrance and Jeff Weaver under a Training Magazine banner host a podcast from a stage. CONFERENCE WRAP-UP POST: (a week late) ATD TechKnowledge (“TK” for short) took a bold deep dive into 5 topics essential for learning technology professionals: accessibility, AI, learning engagement & community, future-focused talent development and the not insignificant task of implementing and managing all this tech! The implementation focus is where I spent most of my time – which really means I got to spend time on **all the things** (exactly my style). Yasmin Gutierrez, Matt Gjertsen and I led a TK Solve workshop around a Learning Technology Implementation Canvas we created just for TK. In just 90 minutes, workshop participants explored one of their own projects from start to finish: the business proposition, the people & change management, and the implementation itself. Some “aha!” moments from our session participants: “I never really thought through the "Signals" of success – or not – like this before.” (props to Chad Udell & Gary Woodill’s BUILDS model, and their book Shock of the New) “Everyone takes a different path through the change process – it’s not all the same.” “I wish I knew this iterative vanilla, fudge ripple, hot fudge super sundae concept before my last project!” (translation: it's an Agile approach to implementing a platform and discovering requirements) You can download the Learning Technology Implementation Canvas here: https://lnkd.in/gqxszeX3 (This is a beta version so I’d love your feedback on it, too! Comment below or send me a DM.) #ATDTK25 Association for Talent Development (ATD) TorranceLearning #learningtech #agile

I was working with a client this past week as they start to create a mission and vision for their L&D team, and stumbled on something I wrote back in 2016. Nearly a decade later, it still has so much resonance. Does your functional team have a mission and vision that nests into your organization's broader mission and vision? (to my eCornell students, take note!) This week I'll be out at #ATD #TK25 in Las Vegas, leading the Technology Implementation pillar. How does your learning tech support your mission and vision? Here's the passage: When I pause and think about all that we’ve built and where we’re going … I see our teams of smart, creative, fun people working together. I see my teammates really rocking it every day, taking on new things and learning more and more. I see the spark of inspiration in all the big things and all the little things that we do and in the place we work. This is all built on trust and respect and a drive to do what’s right by our clients and the people they reach.?Our core values remind and inspire us to do better every day, to be better every day … and to help others do the same. And the work that we do, it really gets down to helping our clients demonstrate to their employees that they care about them. That they believe in them. That they’re worth investing in, because they can learn and grow and become great – become greater – in the process. Our clients come to us because they want to do it better, they want to do it bigger, bolder and more right by their employees. We’ve often referred to our mission as helping people become competent and confident so they can do. At a bigger level, though, it’s about showing that someone cares about them. It’s why we do our very best work. We help make our clients rockstars in their own organizations. We help the teams we work with become stronger and more insightful. We teach them as we help them reach their own people, their learners. And we help each other become rockstars. We work hard as a team to be stronger and more insightful. And we’re constantly learning ourselves as we help others to learn. When we do this, we’re a magnet. We attract great team members, we attract clients who really want to make a difference, we attract the very best partners to help us do this work. And we bring out the greatness in ourselves. #vision #learninganddevelopment Association for Talent Development (ATD) TorranceLearning #2016
