One of our legal recruiters - Becca Levine -- posted this note about a frequently asked recruiting question! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "When is the best time of the year to start my lateral firm search???" This is a question I get every day - is there a better time of year to move than others? The reality is there are pluses and minuses of each time of year depending on simple supply and demand. Some parts of the year less people are on the market so competition will be lower, but there could be less jobs on the market, or the same amount, and then those times are the best times to look. Other times of year, such as post bonus payments, there may be a huge influx of people looking for jobs at the same time, and the search just got a lot more competitive, but a lot more firms may be looking then as well. And while certainly every situation is different, what I tell my candidate is to apply when you are actually ready to move. It is that simple. But as I know from my decade as a legal recruiter, reaching that point when you know it is time to go is not a simple decision. So when you reach it, that is when it is time to start your job search. There are jobs available in all seasons and you can wait for the right time and then not get the job you wanted and be back at square one again. So, my advice is to be ready to jump on the market when you are actually ready, especially keeping in mind that a firm lateral search in the current market can take time and patience. #legalrecruiting #legalrecruiter #toptierlegalsearch

Q2 Law Firm Hiring Predictions: I like to give some insight on here for associates thinking of making a lateral firm move to discuss what we have seen in the market in Q1 and some hiring trends we are predicting. Q1 saw a strong increase in associate interviewing across the board, especially in more regional markets and at AM law 100-200 firms, where there is a lot of appetite to bring on talent. Am law 100/Vault 100 are also seeing increases in open positions and are moving faster at arranging interviews and reaching offers than we were seeing in Q3/Q4 last year, when time from submission to offer often took way longer than we typically see in the market. Time is normalizing now. I have been having many conversations with recruiting coordinators at our law firm clients, and the outlook is positive at many for increased hiring into 2024, in a move back up to more steady hiring levels we saw pre-pandemic. Corporate at law firms still hiring on the slower side as compared to other practice areas, but if you are a corporate attorney thinking of making a move, it would be a good idea to speak with a recruiter soon to be prepared to enter the market as this hiring is starting to pick up as well.
