    ??BREAKING NEWS: LinkedIn Audio gets cancelled, merged into lives, giving loyal users exactly what they don't want (again). EXTRA EXTRA read all about it?? ?? This announcement just came in my email and I HAD to talk about it. Why? Because I'm a huge advocate of social audio having done 1,000 Clubhouse rooms, 300 Twitter Spaces, and over 500 #LinkedInAudioEvents since this trend started. Audio rooms have hugely impacted my business and now it's being taken away here after I migrated from those other audio platforms. ?? ?? WHAT'S HAPPENING: LinkedIn is no longer supporting LinkedIn Audio rooms on their own. Instead they'll merge with livestream. Basically you can create a LinkedIn event that is a livestream and then choose video or audio options. This starts Dec 2, and will be the only option after Dec 31. ?? THE IMPACT: there are many reasons why this is both a surprising and disappointing move. 1?? THE LOST INTERACTION: There was something unique and special about the interaction of #SocialAudio (clicking on profiles, emoticons, coming onstage randomly). The biggest is the ability for random folks in the audience who come by to be invited onstage to share their thoughts. That was the benefit of 'democratized podcasting' where it wasn't a one-way stream. All 'speakers' have to be pre-invited now. This will greatly reduce participation. 2?? 3RD PARTY PLATFORMS NEED: If users now have to use 3rd party apps it impacts them both financially and technologically. Not everyone can do this or effectively. 3?? NOT LISTENING TO USERS: Every time LinkedIn launches something, we avid users invest, champion it, and bring attention to it. Loyal and advanced users are continually not being listened to or supported. We wanted pinned comments, we wanted profile videos, and we want audio rooms. Often it comes down to 'reducing costs' or the illogic that 'only 10% of users do it". 4?? NEGATIVE IMPACT FOR SMALL BIZ: Many #SmallBusiness owners use the 'authentic audible voice' as a tool to create trust more easily and to have conversations with potential clients. Social audio had a low cost of entry to begin and leverage. 5?? USERS WILL GO ELSEWHERE: Since audio is still a unique and strong method for building an audience, having conversations, and gaining clients, some may go elsewhere. I may have to start again a weekly audio room somewhere else, like Clubhouse, Spaces, or Chatter. ???????? WHAT DO WE DO???? First, don't panic. Second, send a message to LinkedIn Help that you like audio rooms on their own and quote my points above. Third, formulate the right strategy for 2025 -- I'll be glad to discuss that with you in the coming weeks in my weekly audio rooms and Zoom calls.
