We are delighted to announce that WIBW 13 News anchor David Oliver will return as the emcee for the Top City Promise Charity Masquerade Ball: Uncovering Refugees’ Stories of Hope for a second year! David’s broadcasting career began right here in Topeka, where he anchored and reported for WIBW from 1996 to 2000. Since then, his journey has taken him to Boise, Idaho, and Springfield, Missouri, before returning to his home state of Kansas and WIBW in 2022. ?? An Award-Winning Journalist: David’s outstanding work has been recognized with numerous honors, including awards from state press and broadcast associations in Kansas, Idaho, and Missouri, a regional EMMY for ‘Team Coverage’ reporting, and an Edward R. Murrow Award for a broadcast project he co-produced and co-hosted in Missouri. ?? Rooted in Kansas: A Wichita native, David is a proud graduate of both the University of Kansas and Wichita State University. He’s also the proud father of two children, Britney and Dawson, and loves spending time with his family in Wichita area, exploring new destinations, and trying his hand at creative recipes in the kitchen. ? David’s passion, energy, and hometown pride make him the perfect host for an unforgettable evening. We are thrilled to announce that Maria Stepura will be a special part of the Top City Promise Charity Masquerade Ball: Uncovering Refugees’ Stories of Hope this year! Maria is an incredibly talented artist and vocalist whose journey is as inspiring as her art. ?? A Life of Creativity: From a young age, Maria immersed herself in the world of painting, attending art school for six years starting at age 11. By high school, she was creating stunning commissioned portraits in pencil and pastel, eventually mastering oil painting. Her skill and passion for art also led her to work for a custom paintings company. Today, Maria continues to share her talent through commissioned works and diverse mediums, from portraits and landscapes to face painting. ?? A Voice That Travels the World: Maria has been a singer for most of her life, starting as the lead vocalist of her first band at just 14. With a degree in Vocal Arts from Dnipro Art College, she has toured extensively across Ukraine and China, enchanting audiences with her powerful voice. ???? A Story of Resilience: Maria and her family fled Ukraine one week after the war began in February 2022. Their journey brought them through Poland, Bulgaria, and Mexico before finally arriving in Topeka, Kansas, where they found hope and support through Yana Ross and the Top City Promise. Today, Maria's vibrant artistry and captivating voice continue to brighten the lives of those around her. Today, a Ukrainian family that Top City Promise Inc helped relocate to Topeka, Kansas, welcomed a baby boy into the world. He was supposed to be born in a free Ukraine, but his parents had to evacuate to provide safety for their children. We are so happy to have them here and celebrate this new life with them. To everyone in Ukraine, your strength and courage inspire us all. Keep your ground, fight for what’s right, and know that the world stands with you. A Washburn University graduate, he’s deeply involved in the local community, serving on several boards and always looking for ways to make Topeka a better place to live. When Israel isn’t making strides in business development and equity, he enjoys writing, spending time outdoors, and cherishing moments with his family.
