Over the past 50 years, cars have gotten bigger—and deadlier for vulnerable road users. We’re encouraged by NHTSA’s newly proposed rule, which will require passenger vehicles to be designed to reduce the risk of fatalities among child and adult pedestrians. This timely shift puts safety at the forefront and reinforces our collective responsibility to protect all road users, no matter how they travel.
This is good first step (one of many needed) to improve vehicle design and reduce pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. I'm guessing it will get a lot of push-back from the auto industry, especially from companies that sell large passenger trucks. Let's do all we can to support these new standards!
