?? COP29: Key Food Waste Insights for Business Leaders ?? As COP29 wraps up, we’re spotlighting the food waste highlights that matter most for businesses committed to sustainability. On Food, Water & Agriculture Day (November 19), a key milestone was reached: 35 countries signed the Declaration on Reducing Methane from Organic Waste, committing to tackle methane emissions – and with good reason, nearly 58% of methane emissions come from wasted food in landfills. In fact, every 1kg of food waste in landfill generates 1.1kg of CO2e emissions coming from methane (EPA, 2023). Why We Think This Is Important For Businesses: ?? Reducing food waste = climate action: The declaration reinforces the link between reducing food waste and achieving our climate goals. Businesses that prioritise food waste reduction align with this growing global agenda. ??? Policy momentum is building: Countries are integrating food waste into national climate plans (or NDCs), paving the way for upcoming regulatory initiatives. Leading businesses can get ahead by implementing food waste hierarchy strategies now. Want to know more about how? Reach out! ?? It’s what people want: Tackling food waste isn’t just good for the planet; it’s good for business and good for people too. It’s what customers, investors, and supply chain partners are demanding. COP29 highlighted that the fight against food waste is pivotal in addressing the climate crisis. But are we doing enough? Discussions are great, but action is better. Businesses have a unique opportunity to lead with solutions that are both impactful and scalable. Let’s turn these global commitments into actionable change—because tackling food waste isn’t just a responsibility, it’s a sensible business decision. #COP29 #Sustainability #FoodWaste #ClimateLeadership

At Too Good To Go, we’ve teamed up with some of your favourite brands to help avoid unnecessary food waste in Irish homes. ?? ???? 38% of Irish consumers indicate they discard food because it has gone past the Best Before date (Empathy, 2024). However, Best Before dates are all about optimal quality, not food safety. So if unopened and stored correctly, it’s perfectly fine to trust your senses—look, smell, and taste–to assess if a product is still good to eat past its Best Before date. ?? That’s why we’re so excited about the launch of our ‘Look-Smell-Taste’ initiative in Ireland. With this launch, our date labelling initiative is now helping to avoid unnecessary wastage across 15 countries! ??????? Thank you to our partners Guinness Food Products, Musgrave, Ballymaloe Foods, Carambar & Co , Tirlán, Kellanova, Danone, The Plant-It Food Co. , Emmi Group, Bel, Green Saffron , Lorenz, FZ Organic Food, for featuring our Look, Smell, Taste label on their Best Before products. Trust your senses. Reduce food waste. Help the environment. For more information, please see: https://lnkd.in/dZdhb7iF

??????Celebrating World Food Day by encouraging consumers to trust their senses and save good food from going to waste? ?????? ?? Five years ago, we learned that around 10% of European household food waste comes from misunderstandings about Best Before and Use By dates (EC, 2018). We knew we needed to do something about it. This led us to scale the ‘Look-Smell-Taste’ initiative, aimed at spreading awareness on how Best Before products are often good after their date. ?? In partnership with some of the world's leading consumer goods companies including Unilever, Nestlé, Danone, Mondelēz International and Bel we introduced a simple yet powerful way to help prevent unnecessary food waste in households. The bespoke Too Good To Go label encourages consumers to trust their senses and look, smell and taste Best Before food items before wasting them. ?? And together, we’re making a real difference: 74% of those who noticed the ’Look-Smell-Taste’ label, reported that they were inspired to change their behaviour for the better.* ?? On this World Food Day, we want to say thank you to our coalition of over 500 brands, across 14 countries, who have adopted the label and print it on over 6 billion product packages annually, helping consumers avoid unnecessary food waste at home. For more information about the link between food waste and the environment, please visit https://lnkd.in/ekzvC38F. *According to a multi-country Brand and Image survey conducted by Kantar Insights for Too Good To Go, 2024. #WorldFoodDay #FoodWaste #Sustainability #LookSmellTaste
