Guiding the process from start to finish, TONO transformed the exterior entry, lobby, leasing office and fitness center of the historic Sharples Works apartments in West Chester, PA. By strategically renovating the layout of these spaces, we also converted an area occupied by the previous office into a luxury two-bedroom apartment with direct exterior access. A modern palette was translated through paint and decorative accents and complemented by new furnishings inspired by the building’s industrial heritage. Throughout the process, the architectural and interior design teams at TONO worked cohesively to finish all spaces with furniture selections that delivered continuity between the newly revitalized spaces and the existing areas. Notable for its breadth of sustainable building strategies and timeless aesthetic, Crossway Church of Lancaster has remained a sentimental favorite of the firm. Perhaps one of the longest active working relationships in our history, the early master planning began almost 20 years ago with the first phase completed eight years later in 2012. In more recent years, TONO Group returned to complete the fit-out of the previously unfinished lower level into a classroom wing in 2022. TONO and the leadership of Crossway worked tirelessly to steward the 76 acres of pristine, actively farmed land along the Conestoga River conscientiously examining the building’s siting, watershed impacts, soil conservation and long-range future growth plans. The hybrid timber and steel tensile, long-span frame demonstrates TONO’s innovative blend of efficient, forward-thinking technologies coupled with beautifully crafted architecture. As tenants’ vision for multi-family living continues to lean toward an amenities-rich experience, developing bespoke recreational and community spaces is crucial. The historic Sharples Works apartment complex in West Chester, PA is a stunning example of adaptive reuse, however many aspects of the building had grown outdated and worn over time. When the management agency recognized the property’s need for improvement, they enlisted TONO Group to reimagine the communal spaces of the complex. Leveraging the firm’s turnkey approach, the architectural, construction, and interior design teams from TONO Group planned, built, and designed five unique areas within the building to elevate the tenant experience and maximize space. We proudly support and immerse ourselves in our local arts programs. As long-time financial supporters of Prima Theatre and having designed and constructed the black box performance space on Lancaster's Wheatland Avenue in 2018, we jumped on the chance to partner with Prima again this spring - from the ground up, so to speak. TONO Group is in the process of creating the stage set for the original production of “We’ll Get Back To You”. Debuting in April, the brand-new show written by acclaimed author and speaker Rob Bell will feature national talent on the local Lancaster stage. What began as a feasibility study to explore improvements to the operations location for West Shore Home quickly grew to a client relationship that embraced the full spectrum of service offerings by TONO Group. As the first of numerous projects spearheaded by TONO Group for West Shore Home, the flagship headquarters at Crossgate Drive in Mechanicsburg, PA demonstrated the depth of trust that CEO BJ Werzyn holds with our family of companies. By closely aligning brand and customer experience with clever architectural planning and real value creation, TONO reconceived the vacant two-story, 60,000 square foot multi-tenant office building into a national administrative headquarters for the billion-dollar company. A landmark project for TONO, the Machinist’s Workshop situated in the countryside of Lancaster County, represents the inaugural project for PROTO Construction Management. Born out of necessity and the willing spirit of the property’s owner, this “folly” of sorts sits directly adjacent to the primary mid-century modern residence for a couple whose work and hobbies center on precision machining. This out-building contains room for multi-axial lathing machines, tinker space, and a gaming loft. With its raw palette and ambitiously modern exterior, the owners desired a highly visible and overtly TONO aesthetic for their rural property. Completed in March 2012, it has since been downloaded thousands of times on Houzz continuing to inspire homeowners around the globe.
