The Trump administration is focusing on fully enforcing existing immigration laws, including the requirement that noncitizens file Form AR-11 to notify USCIS of a change in residence within 10 days of moving.?Because the penalties for failure to file are severe, including possible deportation, it is critical that all non-U.S. citizens (including permanent residents) ensure they timely file Form AR-11 with each residential move. The lawyers of Tonkon Torp stand with Perkins Coie. On March 6, President Trump issued an executive order stripping security clearances from the Perkins lawyers, canceling the firm’s government contracts, and barring the lawyers from accessing government buildings (among other things).?Managing Board member Anna Sortun commented?on this executive order in a Portland Business Journal article published on Friday: “The order sent a ripple through the legal community, with many assuming it was meant to have a chilling effect on lawyers and law firm representation. I suspect the order will have the opposite effect. The Constitution protects the ability of lawyers to represent all manner of clients and causes and enshrines access to justice. Politically targeted actions against lawyers and law firms like the recent executive order on Perkins Coie undermine our legal system. The U.S. system of law relies upon lawyers to represent all sides of any given issue, even unpopular ones. I can only speak for Tonkon Torp, which supports Perkins Coie and will not change its approach to case evaluation as a result of this order.” https://lnkd.in/eskQfm8m
