Juneteenth, short for June Nineteenth, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom – two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It was on this day that the last enslaved African Americans in the United States, approximately 250,000 at the time in Texas, learned of their freedom, marking an important step in the continuing and arduous journey toward equality. As we commemorate Juneteenth, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating a country that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. Together, we stand in solidarity with our communities, colleagues, clients, families, and friends in the continuing pursuit of a more just and equitable society.

Working as the Chief Restructuring Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Information Officer/Chief Operations Officer to Mercy Iowa City, ToneyKorf Partners collaborated with the Debtors’ professionals from McDermott Will & Emery, Nyemaster Goode, P.C., and Fifth Third Securities (formerly H2C Securities) to complete the successful sale of the hospital and clinics to the University of Iowa, and last week, the judge confirmed the Debtors’ Plan of Liquidation. ? Managing Director Jim Porter said, “After a contentious start and complicated auction process, the end result was a monumental task supported by all major constituents. While the path to get here was not easy, the hard work of the employees, Board of Directors, bankruptcy professionals, and committee members was instrumental in the successful outcome.” ? Co-founder and Senior Managing Director Mark E. Toney added,?“At a time when many small community hospitals are experiencing severe financial challenges, we are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference by preserving patient care, jobs, and quality health care for Iowa City and its surrounding communities. Serving as interim management to Milford Health & Medical, five years ago today, ToneyKorf professionals led by Mark E. Toney and the Milford team were busy finalizing the details of the integration and unification of Milford as a campus of Bridgeport Hospital, a member of the Yale New Haven Health System. The sale officially closed a few days later on June 9, 2019. ToneyKorf Partners is delighted to see the news that under new ownership the Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus is expanding and thriving. Bridgeport Hospital's Milford Campus unveiled 3 East, a state-of-the-art post-surgical orthopedic care unit. The newly renovated unit will provide cutting-edge inpatient services. Each room is equipped with the latest technology and designed with patient and family comfort in mind. “Every aspect of this unit was meticulously thought out to truly enhance the patient experience,” said Anne (Davila) Diamond president of Bridgeport Hospital. Each room features a tablet that allows patients to control lighting, temperature, the window blinds and their entertainment options. They can also easily communicate with their care team.
