Our 100% biobased Series M material was featured in?the recent Collina Strada?collection at New York Fashion Week 2025! Highlighted in Sourcing Journal’s article, “The (Material) Revolution Will Not Be Plastic,” this collaboration is a critical step toward rethinking how fashion can be both innovative and responsible. Materials account for 92% of the fashion industry’s emissions, but with solutions like our Series M materials, we can lower this statistic. Our sustainable biomaterials can reduce the industry’s reliance on plastic-based options, support a more sustainable supply chain, and create a cleaner future for fashion. As Sourcing Journal notes, next-gen materials are essential to reducing the environmental footprint of fashion. (With growing demand and the need for industry-wide collaboration, adopting these materials is crucial for progress globally. Together, we can transition to materials that support a circular future! As part of our Material History Series, this week we are discussing Amadou, made from the "Fomes fomentarius" mushroom, which has been used for over 5,000 years as a sustainable material that mimics animal leather. In the Romanian village of Corund, artisans have been crafting hats, bags, and accessories with this for over 170 years. They? harvest the fungus and press its stretchy mycelium layer into molds using traditional methods. The tools they use are often simple but effective, like wooden mallets, knives, and handmade presses. Each of these are passed down for generations, which allows for precision and artistry in every piece. This folk craft is a testament to a cultural heritage of sustainable design. Beyond fashion, amadou has had many practical uses throughout history—as a firestarter, a medicinal remedy, and even as a material for creating early forms of paper and padding for armor. Today, this natural material is experiencing a revival as an alternative to animal leather in handmade bags and hats.

The British Fashion Council announced that it is adopting Copenhagen Fashion Week’s sustainability standards for brands in the Newgen program at London Fashion Week. By 2026, these standards will ban animal fur, skins, and feathers and require designers to use at least 60% preferred materials, like organic cotton, viscose, or recycled polyester. The initiative also bans harmful practices like overproduction and unsustainable sourcing. Copenhagen Fashion Week has shown that sustainability and style can coexist. It has cut carbon emissions by 60% in five years. It's time for New York fashion to step up . Let’s commit to increasing the use of eco-friendly materials, eliminate waste through circular design and ethical production, and adopt Copenhagen’s standards.
