The TOM community at the University of Wisconsin-Madison did something amazing! At the build workshop over the weekend, students, faculty, staff, and alumni collaborated to build 6 Toddler Mobility Trainers (TMT) using PVC plastic for the first time, replacing traditional wood. This new version is lighter, water-resistant, and easier to clean, ensuring greater accessibility for young children with disabilities. TOM is a game-changing global movement of communities inspired by a bold moonshot vision of helping 250 million people by co-developing and disseminate highly affordable open-source solutions to help elderly, people living with disabilities and the poor. TOM was launched in Israel in 2015 to be a global humanitarian project. As of March 2020, TOM Communities have operated in 67 locations in 23 countries and five continents. TOM has ran 88 Makeathon and developed a pipeline of 450 TOM Solutions under development. TOM won multiple accolades: Its model was recognized in Inc, Entrepreneur and Forbes Magazines as a venture to watch in 2016-2018, and was framed as "The TEDx of Social Action." It also won first prize from the Blackstone Charitable Trust and the InnoDip Award for innovation in diplomacy.

???? TOM and the U.S. Embassy in Israel have teamed up and are proud to launch a new innovation space at the Embassy's America Hub Israel cultural center in Jerusalem. Equipped with 3D printers and other advanced tools, the space will host community activities to develop open-source solutions for people with disabilities in the Jerusalem area and beyond. Ido is a long-distance runner who, due to an injury, is dealing with partial paralysis in his left arm. The TOM Tikkun Olam Makers team took on the challenge and customized a solution for Ido that allows him to move his arm back and forth while running. The joy on Ido's face says it all. TOM = Tikkun Olam Makers. A global student community, also present at our university, that supports inventions and innovation around the needs of diverse populations.

A little more about my summer: Did you know that if you search Amazon for a scale, the cheapest result is around $9.99 but when you search for a wheelchair scale the cheapest result is $288? With the help of TOM Tikkun Olam Makers, I was able to create, document, and test this scale whose raw materials costs around $30 and is open source on TOM's website https://lnkd.in/eyG3EH9P. I learned how to CNC, laser cut, use an ESP micro-processor, and improved my soldering, coding, and 3D design skills! Looking forward to bringing this vital device to people around the world! Thank you TOM Tikkun Olam Makers for an incredible summer internship! It was extremely meaningful to develop a scale for individuals in wheelchairs to enable them to track their weight without needing to go to their doctor or pay $500 for a giant wheelchair scale. After this summer, people in wheel chairs will be able to buy a scale for under 50$!
??Interns and internships have become integral to our program, and this summer, the TOM Innovation Center in Tel Aviv was buzzing with energy and innovation! ????This year, we had three incredible interns who stayed with us for six weeks from the USA, helping further develop projects on their way to becoming full TOM Products: ??Noah Alloun from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo helped with the Para-stroll push rod mechanism ?? Eytan Israel from Yale University improved the UpScale Prototype ?? Ryan Rokhsar from the University of Maryland worked on the Wheelchair-Accessible Baby Cot ??
