?? Event Report: "Connecting Myself and the Future: The Science Exhibition" ???? From February 13 (Thu) to 16 (Sun), "Connecting Myself and the Future: The Science Exhibition", hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), was held at TIB! ?? We covered the first day's program (February 13, Thu) and reported on the opening session and notable research presentations. The aim of this event was to encourage the next generation to think about the future. It provided opportunities for young people to reflect on various connections—within themselves, with those around them, and with the planet. "Science and technology are tools to create the future. But it is up to us to make use of them." The exhibition featured cutting-edge research from various universities, with interactive exhibits allowing visitors to experience science firsthand! "It's not just about learning knowledge—experiencing it helps us visualize the future!" This kind of direct engagement encourages young people to see science and technology as something personal and relevant to their lives. APT Women 9th Cohort Achievement Presentation ? ＼ On February 10 (Mon), the "APT Women 9th Cohort Achievement Presentation" was held at TIB, showcasing the success of female entrepreneurs shaping the future! https://lnkd.in/gHMv-Gdq APT Women, a program by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, provides aspiring female entrepreneurs with opportunities for growth. The event featured a keynote speech by Rina Sakai, CEO of Fermenstation Co., Ltd. and a 1st cohort graduate, followed by inspiring presentations from five outstanding 9th cohort representatives: 1?? Misato Aonami (Swell inc.) 2?? Misaki Naobayashi (tayori corporation) 3?? Shinano Asai (asai inc.) 4?? Yuka Atsuta (Sukidayo.inc) 5?? Sachiko Nakase (Avinton Japan K.K.) To conclude the event, Governor Yuriko Koike delivered a message to the cohort. Took a quick detour on our family vacation in Japan to visit Platform Calgary’s Tokyo twin, Tokyo Innovation Base! It is incredible to see the similarities between two organizations that have recently opened spaces to support their early stage startup ecosystem. A vibrant hub of events and a purposeful connector, TiB is creating a global node for innovation in Tokyo and for all of Japan. We use the same words to describe our work and have a similar “collaborate first” approach. We even share the same goal to create a 10x acceleration in our ecosystems! I was very impressed with the intentionality of every element of their approach, including the upcoming SusHi Tech Tokyo: https://lnkd.in/gVDh-xJh, which should be of interest to Alberta startups looking for new markets and large Japanese corporate customers. Thank you to Takayasu Matsui, Kats Hayashi and Kai Koki for hosting me, and to Kaori Suzuki for making the connection and doing such a great job representing Alberta in Japan!

A highlight of my visit to Tokyo Innovation Base (as a former promoter of our local beer industry), was seeing the TiB Shop promoting the winners of their regular pitch competition. The beer lover in me was excited to try Naiagara Hop, a terrific wine/beer hybrid from Tanome Beer (??????). ?? The spring conference season is officially in full swing! ?? Honored to be invited by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to attend The 9th J-TECH STARTUP SUMMIT! Exciting times ahead as I crisscross Japan, gearing up for major events like Osaka Expo and SusHi Tech. With March and April shaping up to be extra hectic, I appreciate any meeting requests in advance—my schedule is largely dictated by our government and business partners. ??? 東京都主催の学生起業家支援プログラム「JAM CAMP」の交流会イベントに、メンターとして参加しました！ 今回の会場は Tokyo Innovation Base???? 初めて訪れましたが、アートの展示やクリエイティブな空間が広がり、まさに「イノベーションの交差点」といった雰囲気でとても刺激を受けました? イベントでは大学生の子達と本音と本気で話をして、彼らの熱意、視座の高さ、挑戦を恐れない姿勢に感動しました???? 「こんなにも未来を真剣に考え、行動しているのか…！」と、私自身も大きな刺激をもらい、自分の目標を改めて見つめ直す機会に ? 東京から名古屋へ向かう新幹線の中での移動時間は「思考の整理の時間」になりました??? 窓の外を流れる景色を眺めながら、これからのことをゆっくり考える。 そんな時間が、結構好きだったりします???
