  • The Sista Nonprofit Network is our program that is an online community for Black women who work in nonprofit and philanthropy that is a professional safe space for women who work in these sectors. Our next event, We Can Rest and Be Excellent workshop, takes place on Thursday, March 20th from 1:00-2:00 pm EST. This event is a conversation specific to Black women who work in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. In the pursuit of excellence, Black women are rarely taught the importance of rest. As a result, many Black women are overworked, underpaid, and battling burnout, struggling to care for ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. In the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, this is amplified because we often sacrifice ourselves for our work to better our communities. In this workshop, we will explore some of the concepts in Tokiwa T Smith book, "I Can Rest and Be Excellent", which include how to embrace rest while working in the social impact sector, allowing us to thrive both personally and professionally. If you're a Black woman in nonprofit or philanthropy looking to prioritize your well-being while continuing to make a meaningful impact, register for this event through the link below. https://lnkd.in/gbwpG-AA

"Black Girl Magic” is the celebration of the resilience, beauty, intelligence, and excellence of Black women. It highlights the ways Black women have historically risen above systemic challenges, creating and achieving extraordinary things despite adversity. The phrase seeks to uplift , inspire, and honor Black women- but it can also unintentionally place an unrealistic burden on us. The concept of “magic” suggests an almost supernatural ability to persevere and thrive, which can sometimes overlook the humanity of Black women, our struggles, vulnerabilities, and needs. Black women are not invincible; we are human with goals, dreams, emotions, and a need for support, rest, and care. The theme for the Sista Nonprofit Network’s 5th Annual Sista Summit, which will take place on this Friday, January 24th from 10:30 am - 1:30 pm EST, is Black Girl Magic: Defining Success on our Own Terms. The Sista Nonprofit Network, our program that is an online community for Black women who work in nonprofit and philanthropy. The summit is the network's annual virtual conference where Black women in these sectors gather to learn and grow together. The summit will commence with a panel discussion, Purposeful and Paid Navigating Your Career on Your Own Terms. Our panel moderator will lead a conversation on how Black women in these sectors have navigated their career paths to align with their career and lifestyle goals. The panel discussion will be followed by 3 concurrent professional development workshops on topics such as self-advocacy, strategic planning, and financial empowerment. Our keynote speaker, Carmen James Randolph, will close the summit, providing us with inspiring words and insights around the summit’s theme. If you are a Black woman who works in nonprofit or philanthropy, attend this summit to learn strategies for letting go of societal definitions of success and focus on what truly matters to you.
