We are a global partnership dedicated to ending violence against children, especially sexual violence against girls
关于我们
Together for Girls is a global public-private partnership dedicated to ending violence against children, particularly sexual violence against girls. In partnership with governments, civil society and the private sector, Together for Girls calls attention to the issue of violence against children and mobilizes support for country-driven efforts for change through a three-pronged approach to prevent and respond to violence: 1. National Violence Against Children Surveys (VACS) and data, led by CDC as part of the Together for Girls partnership, to document the magnitude, nature and impact of physical, emotional, and sexual violence against girls and boys. 2. Comprehensive, evidence-based, coordinated policy and programme actions across sectors in countries to address issues identified through data, under the leadership of national governments, with overall coordination and technical support led by UNICEF. Multi-sectoral responses include legal and policy reform, improved services for girls and boys who have experienced violence, and prevention programs. 3. Global advocacy and public awareness efforts to bring attention to the problem, promote evidence-based solutions, and provide a platform for survivors, young people, and advocates to share their stories. Founded in 2009, the Together for Girls partnership brings together six UN agencies, the governments of the United States and Canada, several private sector organizations, and implementing country governments to prevent and respond to violence against children, as a fundamental step to achieving individual rights and well-being, gender equality, and sustainable development. UN partners include UNICEF, UNAIDS, UN Women, WHO/PAHO, the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children, and UNFPA. The United States and Canada are represented by their respective agencies: the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR); the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); and Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Our private sector partners are Cummins&Partners, BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), the CDC Foundation, and the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children. Currently, the partnership works with more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe to generate comprehensive data and solutions to this public health and human rights epidemic. Only an estimated $0.09 of every dollar of the annual U.S. foreign assistance budget is allocated to child well-being, less than 1% of the total U.S. foreign assistance funding. It is NOT enough. Over the last 15 years, the Together for Girls partnership has fundamentally changed the way the world understands and addresses violence against children at scale. And we’ve done this in 23 countries so far. This progress has been possible because we have the largest source of data on violence against children in the world from the implementation of Violence Against Children & Youth Surveys (VACS), implemented by national governments with technical assistance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But now the future of VACS is at risk. At a moment when U.S. foreign assistance is decreasing, the world looks to the commitments and pledges that global leaders will make next month at the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children to secure the safety, well-being, and futures of children everywhere. We need a minimum $10 million annual investment to support the VACS moving forward and continue this critical work to understand, prevent, and respond to violence against children. We call on the continued leadership of the U.S. to make this pledge and help ensure that every child is protected. Read this new blog I co-wrote with Chrissy Hart, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Together for Girls https://bit.ly/47MRNGZ
?? How can we keep kids safe when children represent less than 1% of U.S. foreign assistance funding? ?? With support from the U.S. government, every country that has undergone a Violence Against Children & Youth Survey (VACS) and its #DataToAction process has implemented policy and programmatic changes with subsequent reductions in the prevalence of violence against children. ?However, U.S. government investment in foreign assistance is decreasing, with no funding allocated for future VACS. ? To ensure the continued leadership and influence of the U.S. in the prevention of and response to violence against children globally, we are requesting at least $10 million in funding to support VACS. The United States has established itself as a global leader in improving protections for children from exploitation and violence and its continued leadership is necessary, now more than ever, to build the resources and capacity of countries to #EndViolenceAgainstChildren.
