“The Jewish museum’s closure is a terrible blow to the critical mass of Yerba Buena, which was always intended to be the city’s primary cultural center. It really hurts the whole downtown recovery,” said John Elberling, president of TODCO Group (Tenants and Owners Development Corp.), a nonprofit affordable housing developer and advocacy group headquartered in the neighborhood. The Yerba Buena Gardens — two blocks of public parks surrounded by housing, hotels, restaurants and the Moscone Convention Center that are the neighborhood’s centerpiece — were “terribly underused” this year, Elberling said. “We’re just not bringing people downtown to come to events and activities in the gardens.” Read the full article in the San Francisco Chronicle linked below.?? https://lnkd.in/gv623rAG #TODCO #SanFranicsco #AffordableHousing #Nonprofit #DowntownRecovery #SouthofMarket #YerbaBuenaGardens

关于我们
As South of Market Neighborhood Builders, it is the Mission of the TODCO Group to assure that the poor, the disadvantaged, and the working people of South of Market — elders, hotel residents, homeless, immigrants and families — will always be an integral part of their Neighborhood's future, always benefited rather than displaced by renewal, and able: -To meet basic needs for housing, nutrition and economic security, ending deprivation. -To live in safety with dignity, respect and equity, ending isolation and exploitation. -To share community productivity to build social capital, institute wellness, expand common assets, and impact the future. -To achieve their just aspirations now and for generations to come. Working together with South of Market's many communities, our Vision is to realize here at last: a just and inclusive Neighborhood of Opportunity.

These apartment blocks, intended as replacement low-income housing for 4000 SRO units demolished by the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency in the 1970’s, are the heart of the Yerba Buena neighborhood today: Clementina Towers (built 1971), Silvercrest Residence (1972), Alexis Apartments (1974), Woolf House (1979), San Lorezno Ruiz Center (1980), Ceatrice Polite Apartments (1986), Mendelsohn House (1988), and Eugene Coleman Community House (2002)..." An Untold Story: Alice Street Community Gardens — A Secret SOMA Treasure "In 1971 the first tenants of newly built Clementina Towers public housing found themselves in the midst of a redevelopment bulldozer wasteland, surrounded by the barren ruins of their one-time Yerba Buena home. Then, inspired by the first Earth Day in 1970, Walter Knox and his fellow residents decided to build their own community garden across Clementina Street on a 14,000 sq. ft. fenced off empty lot that had not yet been paved over by the Redevelopment Agency..." ***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*** Still Here, Still Home: This mural’s message to SOMA still rings true, 30 years later | Rigo 23 restores the historic InnerCity Home Mural on SOMA's Sixth Street. | San Francisco, CA — When artist Rigo 23 (then Rigo 94) first completed the InnerCity Home in 1994 SOMA’s Sixth Street was undergoing a redevelopment revival. Back then, the mural project was initiated by Capp Street Project’s “Art in the Urban Landscape” program and a 28-year-old Rigo 94 was connected with TODCO’s (Tenants and Owners Development Corporation) in-progress low-income housing development the Knox SRO at 241 6th St, San Francisco. @rigo23studio Read the full media advisory here! ?? https://lnkd.in/g28Es8jh #TODCOGroup #SanFrancisco #AffordableHousing #NonProfit #ArtsProgram #PublicArt #Mural #PublicMural #Artist #CityArt

A few snapshots from our 2024 TODCO Senior Ball at the Moscone Center's Esplanade Ballroom last Wednesday! Our last Senior Ball was in 2019 before the COVID 19 pandemic and our team here at TODCO was very excited to bring this event back to our senior community. Thank you to our amazing staff, the team at the Moscone Center, our local partners, our senior residents who attended and all those who worked hard to make this year's Senior Ball a success!
