Our own Josh Shelton is doing community outreach in Corpus Christi, TX. There's a lot that small business owners can do to optimize and promote their business without needing outside help. Often, the biggest challenge is just getting started (and knowing where to start). SEO or Search Engine Optimization is one of those things that sounds intimidating at first, but the fundamentals are well within the grasp of anyone managing their own website.

ICYMI: "A St. Louis jury [in September] reached a $462 million verdict against trailer manufacturer Wabash National in a case stemming from a May 2019 fatal crash in which a passenger vehicle hit the rear of a 2004 Wabash trailer being pulled by now-defunct Akron, Ohio-based GDS Express. "Two men, the driver and a passenger, were killed in the collision, which occurred 15 years after the trailer involved was manufactured in compliance with existing regulatory standards, according to Wabash. Evidence Wabash presented in court showed the car was traveling 55 mph at impact – 20 mph faster than the current National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) underride standard, and 25 mph faster than the NHTSA standard at the time of the crash. "The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2018 found Wabash was one of eight North American trailer manufacturers that exceed federal underride guard standards and qualify for the institute’s ToughGuard award. Following an IIHS crash test series in 2011, IIHS called Wabash's two-post guard "the strongest of the three evaluated.” "Wabash contended that, despite precedent to the contrary, the jury was prevented from hearing critical evidence in the case, including that the driver’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit at the time of the accident. The fact that neither the driver nor his passenger was wearing a seatbelt was also kept from the jury, even though plaintiffs argued both would have survived a 55-mile-per-hour collision had the vehicle not broken through the trailer's rear impact guard." "Self-driving truck developer Torc Robotics announced that it has begun validating its autonomous driving technology at speeds up to 65 mph with no one on board the vehicle in a closed-course environment. "Since May, the independent subsidiary of Daimler Truck North America has been conducting fully driverless truck tests on a multi-lane test track in #Texas, the company revealed Oct. 29. . . . "Much like several other autonomous truck developers, Torc also has been using its self-driving trucks to haul freight on public highways but with a safety driver still behind the wheel as a backup. "Moving forward, Torc intends to continue validating its technology, expanding its capabilities and addressing 'edge cases' — very rare scenarios the truck might encounter on the road — with the goal of finalizing a 'feature complete' self-driving product by the end of 2025, CJ King said. "From there, the company plans to begin operating with no driver aboard on public highways in Texas starting in 2026 to pave the way for a commercial launch in 2027." Three years in the making, the U.S. Department of Transportation Advisory Committee on Human Trafficking released a report earlier this month: "Preventing and Addressing Human Trafficking in the Transportation Sector". They identified ongoing challenges but also highlighted success stories in trucking companies and industry organizations. Transport Topics summarized some of the kudos: ○ American Trucking Associations helped spread the word about TAT Nonprofit with speaking opportunities and media promotion. ○ Werner Enterprises became a member of the DOT's Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking and provided training throughout the company. ○ UPS used TAT resources to train #truckdrivers to see the warning signs of human trafficking. ○ Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) used training, awareness, and policy recommendations to amplify counter-trafficking messaging. ○ NATSO released a toolkit and online learning tool for truck stop owners, operators, and employees. ○ AAMVA (American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators) developed model programs and worked with TAT on the CDL manual. ○ Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance used Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration grant funding to develop and broadcast PSAs. The recent 2024 report also included recommendations for transportation companies: ○ Continue/Expand Awareness Materials: including person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive signage and resources. ○ Leverage Materials: Utilize transport-related, survivor-informed counter-trafficking training and public awareness materials that are multilingual and include the USDOT QR code, 911 for emergencies, and the National Human Trafficking Hotline. https://lnkd.in/geuqat7q
