Check out this insightful article from David Michaels
This is a really good article and a must read for all safety professionals and business leaders! Former head of OSHA, David Michaels writes in August 28, 2024 MIT Sloan Managment Review that "Businesses that have fully embraced worker safety produce a higher-quality product; have more productive, loyal workers; and, most importantly, experience fewer work injuries, which in turn greatly reduces the costs associated with such events." Michaels goes on to write, "the best leaders operate not on the basis of calculating the ROI on safety but from a recognition that by striving for operating excellence, they are making their companies safer, more productive, and more profitable." Obviously, what David is saying makes a lot of sense to most safety professionals. We've been trying to sell the ROI of safety performance to leadership for decades. But the real ROI is much more than just cost savings, reduced injuries, and lower workers' comp claims. Safety is like the proverbial canary in the coal mine. If safety performance goes down, so does the organization. Safety impacts all aspects of organizational performance including quality, productivity, employee retention, sustainability, and finanical performance. If you want operational excellence, safety must be a core value and a critical component of everything you do! https://lnkd.in/eCqT-UxN #Safety #OSHA #SafetyPerformance #SafetyROI #RiskManagement #OrganizationalPerformance #DontPutSafetyinaSilo
