This March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring the remarkable achievements of women who have shaped history, such as Sojourner Truth, Patsy Mink, Ella Flagg Young, and Shirley Chisholm. These trailblazers have educated and inspired generations, leaving a legacy of strength, dedication, and leadership that has profoundly influenced minds and futures worldwide. Women’s History Month started as a weeklong event in 1978 in Sonoma, California. It included school presentations, a “Real Woman” essay contest, and a parade in Santa Rosa. What started as a small local celebration has become a nationwide tribute to women’s contributions to culture, history, and society. TNG's Senior Supervising Consultant, Mikiba W. Morehead, Ed.D., will be speaking today as part of The Psychology of Black Womanhood Symposium at Spelman College.
Title IX, ADA/504, Technology-facilitated Sexual Abuse Expert ? Consultant | Trainer | Keynote Speaker | Researcher
I am excited to announce that I will be speaking at the Psychology of Black Womanhood Symposium at Spelman College on February 20, 2025. I will be joining an esteemed panel of practitioners to discuss the critical issue of the impact of technology-facilitated Image-based Sexual Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence on Black women. The intersection of race and gender creates unique challenges that are often overlooked and under-discussed. Therefore, intentional conversations in this space are all the more important to bring attention to the profound effects these issues have on the well-being and safety of Black women. I look forward to contributing to this important conversation and collaborating with thought leaders in the field to raise awareness, share insights, and advocate for the safety and empowerment of Black women everywhere. This Black History Month, TNG, ATIXA (Association of Title IX Administrators), and NABITA (National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment) celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune—an educator, philanthropist, and civil rights leader who dedicated her life to championing the power of education to uplift marginalized communities. Bethune once proclaimed, "Education is the great American adventure, the world's most colossal democratic experiment." As we honor visionary leaders like Mary McLeod Bethune, we embrace Black History Month as an opportunity to reaffirm our dedication to fostering inclusive, equitable, and empowering educational spaces for all.

Lunar New Year, sometimes called Chinese New Year, is celebrated worldwide with vibrant traditions. The two-week celebration includes family, friends, feasting, fireworks, parties, and parades. This year, Lunar New Year falls on January 29th. As we ring in the Year of the Snake, we pay tribute to Chinese American Wong Kim Ark. His lawsuit against the federal government led to the landmark Supreme Court decision in United States v. Wong Kim Ark (https://hubs.li/Q034thZL0). The ruling affirmed that the government could not deny citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil. Under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, children born in the U.S. are citizens, even if their parents are ineligible to become citizens. Wong Kim Ark’s legacy reminds us of the enduring power of justice and equity in times of adversity.

TNG, ATIXA (Association of Title IX Administrators), and NABITA (National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment) honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s profound legacy and the enduring impact of his fight for justice. His unwavering commitment to equality inspires us to help create learning environments free from violence, discrimination, and inequity. Dr. King envisioned a world where justice prevailed. Central to his principles of nonviolence is the belief that nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice, not people. Nonviolence recognizes that those who cause harm are also victims and are not evil or bad people. To learn more about Dr. King’s principles and vision, we encourage you to visit https://hubs.li/Q0331FL90.
