The Next 10

A master plan for Downtown Springfield and the Mid-Illinois Medical District has been completed! Springfield formally began work on its Master Plan in late 2021, after residents identified downtown revitalization as one of their priority issues through The Next 10 community visioning initiative that was spearheaded by the Community Foundation. The City of Springfield took the lead on development of the plan in collaboration with the Community Foundation, Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance, Downtown Springfield, Inc., and the Mid-Illinois Medical District. The public is invited to attend any of the following events to learn more about the plan: Thursday, October 24 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM Open House Memorial Learning Center – 228 W. Miller St., Springfield Friday, October 25 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM (doors open at 7:30 AM) Citizen’s Club Hoogland Center for the Arts – 420 S. Big plans for the future of the Illinois State Fairgrounds! The Illinois Department of Agriculture and Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln recently released a master plan for the Fairgrounds, which identifies opportunities to increase year-round events, attendance and economic impact. Creating a vibrant Town Square, adding a hotel and constructing a new 200,000-square-foot multipurpose venue as a signature building are some of the big ideas in the plan.
