Over $2 billion of goods will be affected per day when the ILA strike is in effect Tuesday morning. 45,000 ILA workers are expected to strike and shut down three dozen locations at 14 port authorities along the East Coast and Gulf Coast. Port Houston Chemical & Petrochemical plants may have to be temporarily shut down. Drayage Trucking and rail yards will be limited to minimal activity with massive containers & railcars staged everywhere, affecting well over $100 million daily. We can expect an economic ‘tsunami’ affecting massive amounts of agri-food and cold chain losses, and inventory issues for automotive, machinery, fabricated steel, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. Countdown to the International Longshoreman Association (ILA) contract expiration on Monday 30th of September. Let's hope the ILA and the UNITED STATES MARITIME ALLIANCE LIMITED meet in the middle of these critical contract negotiations to avoid a lockdown hitting U.S. ports from Maine to Texas.
