I’m forever grateful for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Leadership Institute that helped me start my career with GE.

Beyond thankful to have been blessed with the 2024 Bridging the Dream Scholarship. Thank you so much to Thurgood Marshall College Fund and The Sallie Mae Fund for making this opportunity possible for me. I cannot wait to see all the places that my collegiate endeavors will lead me to!

This past summer was nothing short of extraordinary, and I’m excited to share one of the highlights of my journey! I had the privilege of participating in the Thurgood Marshall College Fund x Chevron Energy Innovation Summit in Houston, Texas. This unforgettable opportunity not only allowed me to grow professionally but also led to a moment of immense pride; my team and I secured 2nd place and a grand prize of $17,500! The challenge presented to us was no small feat. We were tasked with developing a communication strategy to help California policymakers understand the environmental impact and risks of selecting specific technologies in the evolving liquid fuel market. Through teamwork, innovative thinking, and countless late-night brainstorming sessions, we crafted "Renewing Richmond," a forward-thinking proposal that leveraged AI and White Papers to advocate for the importance of renewable fuels. Navigating this complex problem taught me so much about resilience, collaboration, and the power of diverse perspectives. Beyond the competition, the summit provided invaluable opportunities for professional development. From engaging panels to one-on-one conversations with seasoned professionals in the energy and technology sectors, I gained insights that will continue to shape my career. The experience was a true testament to the importance of adaptability, creative problem-solving, and the strength found in working together toward a shared goal. I want to give a special thanks to Rishoba Mundrati, Tamaria Kai Perry, Jairamie King, Justin M. Lewter, and to our coach, Alvaro Aceves, P.E. and everyone at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and Chevron that made this experience special. This experience has left me inspired, energized, and ready to tackle new challenges head-on. Here’s to continued growth, innovation, and making an impact!

I hope there’s no statute of limitations on writing about an event, because even though it’s been a month, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund CNA Insurance & Guidewire Software Innovation Challenge in San Mateo, CA, is still fresh in my mind! I had the honor of co-coaching Team Virtual Vortex, featuring the brilliant Roxanne James, Ashlee McCrary, Shiniah Thompson, and Jelani I. Lawrence, alongside my amazing co-coach Sylvester Bracey. Watching this team come together, work tirelessly, and ultimately deliver an incredible pitch for VaultGuard, their AI-powered cybersecurity solution for small businesses, was unforgettable. Their dedication earned them 1st place, and every bit of credit goes to them for their hard work, creativity, and perseverance. To Roxanna, Ashlee, Shiniah, and Jelani—thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey. It was a privilege to witness your growth, share in the brainstorming sessions, and celebrate your well-deserved success. You all are the true stars, and I’m so excited to see where your paths take you next. To all 16 HBCU students who participated, your energy, innovation, and passion were inspiring. This program wasn’t just about competition—it was about growth, relationships, and unlocking potential. We were incredibly proud to partner with CNA Insurance and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to sponsor our 2nd annual Innovation Challenge at our Guidewire Software HQ. Sixteen motivated students from 11 HCBUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) came to San Mateo and ideated on innovative new ideas for cyber security in the insurtech industry. Guided by our stellar Guidewire and CNA coaches, the students gained invaluable skills through networking, panel sessions and brainstorming together for their pitches, as well as advice and support from our CEO, Mike Rosenbaum as they consider a career in insurance and insurtech.
