Jerel’s career is marked by transformative accomplishments, including his most recent role as Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, where he revitalized the state’s college readiness initiatives and developed ADVi, a virtual advising tool currently serving over 200,000 students. He has also led Texas’ largest educational compensation initiative and successfully advocated for impactful K-12 and higher education policies across Texas and Maryland. With a Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law, a Master’s in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Baltimore, and a Bachelor’s in Journalism from the University of Texas, Jerel’s academic and professional background exemplifies commitment to educational access and institutional excellence. Jerel is a proud fourth generation HBCU graduate and has a deep passion and commitment for advancing our Historically Black Colleges and Universities via executive talent solutions.
