Congratulations to Thomas H. Gray, and well done, Tommy Gantz, for helping draft the resolution to recognize his legacy in aerospace engineering, flight testing, and mentorship. We found a nice past feature in Mirage Magazine on Mr. Gray during his time with Boeing here: https://lnkd.in/g6TBnuYP #AviationHistory #AerospaceEngineering #PNWNews #MuseumofFlight #Docent #FlightTesting #CareerinFlight

Today was a particiarly special day as we gathered at the Washington State House of Representatives to honor the remarkable career and contributions of Thomas H Gray through House Resolution 4626. It was a privilege to help draft this resolution recognizing his legacy in aerospace engineering, flight testing, and mentorship. Tom Gray’s career is nothing short of legendary, beginning at Boeing in 1961, he played a critical role in the flight testing of iconic aircraft like the 707, 747, and 767, and he made history as the first non-pilot to fly aboard the maiden 747 flight in 1969. His pioneering work in digital and computer integration has shaped the safety and performance of modern aviation. Beyond his contributions to aircraft, he played a key role in the Space Shuttle Enterprise landing tests in 1977 and supported advancements in maritime domain technology for the U.S. Navy. Tom’s impact goes far beyond his technical achievements. His 1,400+ hours as a fellow The Museum of Flight docent, dedication to preserving the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, and mentorship of young aviators through programs like the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club and the Michael P. Anderson Memorial Aerospace Program have left an enduring mark on generations to come. Joining us today were Tom’s two sons, two aviation students (Zach, who is pursuing a career in commercial aviation, and Rumeiza, currently a flight instructor) both inspired by Tom’s legacy. We were also honored to be joined by Colonel Kimberly Ford, an Alaska Airlines pilot, her father, who served in the Signal Corps, and Karen Robinson , President of the Sam Bruce Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen. A huge thank you to Representative April Berg for sponsoring this resolution, bringing him into the Democratic house, caucus for special recognitionand to all the many legislators from both sides of the aisle who supported and honored today. Special appreciation to Representative Berg’s legislative assistant, Katharine Gillen for her tireless efforts in making this recognition a reality. A shout out to representative Chris Corry amd Tom Dent for working to have him recognized in Republican house caucus today as well. https://lnkd.in/ggDVwCxQ #Aerospace #Mentorship #TuskegeeAirmen #WashingtonState #AviationHistory #STEMEducation #Leadership

A significant partnership has emerged between Delta Air Lines and JetZero, focused on developing the blended-wing-body (BWB) aircraft that is projected to achieve a 50% improvement in fuel efficiency. Delta's Sustainable Skies Lab will provide crucial operational expertise, aiding in the aircraft's transition to commercial use and aligning with Delta's net-zero emissions. Delta's legacy of innovation, spanning from its origins in agricultural aviation to technological advancement, also will extend to interior design, aiming to elevate the passenger journey. JetZero, having dedicated many years to BWB research and development, anticipates a demonstrator aircraft flight in 2027, with backing from Delta and the Air Force. This BWB is engineered to match the range and seat capacity of today's mid-range international aircraft, utilizing existing engine technology. #AerospaceNews #BWB #BlendedWingBodyAircraft #AerospaceEngineering

Just after dusk tonight, 2/28, check out the night sky when seven planets will line up for the conclusion of a rare planetary parade. With the right binoculars or telescope, you will have a chance to see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. According to NASA, the next time planets align will be in late August, when four planets are expected to be visible. ?? In The News: Why Hybrids Have The U.S. Military’s Eye ? This month’s issue of Aerospace America magazine (AIAA) places Electra.aero's EL9 Ultra Short aircraft front and center.?? ? In December, the United States Air Force AFWERX innovation unit declared that hybrid-electric aircraft are the future of its Agility Prime test and development program.?? ? Electra designed the EL9, in partnership with Agility Prime, to be the workhorse for intra-theater airlift and contested logistics missions at the last tactical leg – delivering materiel from hubs to spokes without runways, infrastructure, or noise.? ? Electra’s EL9 can do it all. ? ? ? Runway independent -- thanks to its hybrid-electric blown-lift technologies enabling safe and quiet takeoff and landing in just 150 feet.? ? Able to transport 1,000 lbs for distances over 1,000 nautical miles.? ? Mobile power source – provides 600 kW of continuous power and up to 1 MW of temporary power to equipment and command posts in austere environments. Lt. Col. Jonathan “Spades” Gilbert, who runs the Prime Division of AFWERX, told AIAA Aerospace America magazine's Paul Brinkmann that with hybrid-electric, “I can get a lot of the benefits of the electric system, but now I can increase range and payload. It’s a win-win for everything.”? ? Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gndh-4Gk?
