“Just because CO2 sequestration can be done doesn’t mean it should be done.” The ADM #carboncapture facility in Illinois — the first commercial facility of its kind in the U.S. — is leaking and, even more concerning, ADM didn’t disclose the first leak *for months.* #CO2 leaks pose serious risks to local communities and their drinking water. With billions of tax dollars being funneled into CCS, we should ask ourselves: Is this really a just a #BigOil scam? Big Oil sells #carboncapture as a solution to #climatechange, but it's actually perpetuating racial injustices — especially in places like New Orleans where Black communities already grappling with the toll of pollution are facing even more risks from the new @st-charles-clean-fuels CCS plant. There are plenty of legitimate and viable climate solutions out there that don’t fatten #BigOil’s bottom line at the expense of people’s health.
