In honor of Women’s History Month, we are proud to announce a historic milestone at Tipton Associates. We are thrilled to share the promotion of Fabie Bennett Derbigny, LA Reg ID #1437, to Principal— making her the first Interior Designer stakeholder in our firm’s 145+ year history, and only the second woman to hold this role, alongside Erin Morgan. Fabie’s journey with Tipton began as a student intern in 2010. Over the past fifteen years, she has become a cornerstone of our leadership team — currently serving as Interior Design Studio Director and a member of the Operations Council, helping guide the firm’s vision and success. Her leadership has influenced award-winning designs across Louisiana and the nation, impacting more than 180 campuses in 30+ states. Fabie was also recognized as an Emerging Professional by the LSBID in 2020 and served as past president of the IIDA Delta Regional Chapter. As Kenneth W. Tipton shares: “Fabie’s talent was evident from the moment she joined us as an intern. A stunning new space to serve some of Clemson University’s key programs and partners. We’re proud to be part of the team with Cooper Carry and Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC).
New name, who dis? ?? Clemson University’s soon-to-open alumni and visitors center officially has a new name thanks to longtime University friends and alumni, the Nieri family. Designed by GMC in partnership with Cooper Carry, the 100,000-square-foot Nieri Alumni and Visitors Center will be home to some of the University’s most crucial partners and programs, including the Clemson Alumni Association, Class of 1944 Visitors Center, the Board of Trustees Office, Advancement, Clemson University Foundation, Admissions and the Michelin Career Center. The facility will also feature Walker Course’s new club house and pro-shop, which includes expanded retail sales space plus men’s and women’s locker rooms; large gathering and meeting spaces; additional parking; an outdoor loggia; two rooftop terraces; and more! GMC is providing architecture and civil engineering services for the project, with Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC serving as the construction manager. Additional project partners include RMF Engineering, Inc., Michael M. Simpson + Associates, Inc. “It’s the sense of being part of our larger community,” she said. “Everyone involved with Habitat is truly mission-driven, working together with the goal of eliminating poverty housing. It’s really inspiring. I love stepping out of the office and spending time on site. I’ve made some great friends and mentors along the way. With ABW and school leadership we worked to create an environment that fostered independence for these exceptional high school students while keeping health and safety a high priority.

We’re thrilled to announce that Tipton Associates Tipton Associates, APAC has been awarded the Silver ROSE Award for their exceptional work on the Living/Learning Commons at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, LA!?A Joint Venture with Ashe Broussard Weinzette Architects, this project exemplifies how thoughtful design can foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. This premier public high school draws high-achieving students from diverse backgrounds across Louisiana, providing both living and learning spaces that foster academic and social growth.?The architectural design brings the school’s vision to life, intertwining academic and community culture within a cohesive and inviting living/learning commons. ?? Juror Comments: The jury was impressed by the “distinguished site planning strategy” and the intentional relationships between interior and exterior spaces, including social, private, and secure areas.?They appreciated how elements like the porch and the use of natural materials—brick, wood, and metal—created a “nice sense of humanity” and openness.?As one juror remarked, “It’s for the kids.” ?? Project Highlights: Thoughtful Layout:?Three wings extend from a central lobby, framing two courtyards and preserving the natural surroundings, including pine and cypress trees and a large live oak. Community-Focused Design:?Independently functioning “neighborhood halls” organize student residences, with shared spaces like laundry, study lounges, and a light-filled commons for gatherings. Intentional Materials:?Warm cypress and zinc accents provide an inviting counterpoint to the secure brick-wrapped residential spaces, balancing openness and security without a fortress-like feel. Congratulations to Tipton Associates for this well-deserved recognition.?This project truly reflects a commitment to creating spaces that enhance educational experiences while honoring the unique needs of students and community!

We stopped by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Main Library at the Goodwood to visit with renowned stained-glass artist Steve Wilson, of Stephen Wilson Stained Glass, as he installed a new rainbow frieze in the double-height lobby. Our design intent with the Main Library (a collaboration with Cockfield Jackson and PSA Dewbery) was to make a true community living room. And this new work by Wilson and his team only enhances the space as visitors enter and exit. "It hugs and encapsulates you," said assistant director Mary Stein.

Had the amazing privilege today to play tour guide with 16 architecture students from LSU and LATech through AIAS! We visited 6 different offices in Baton Rouge and got to hear from leaders in our industry that have shaped our cities and beyond. We are incredibly grateful to these offices for opening their doors to our students and sharing a little bit about what they do. We started the day off on campus with LSU Planning Design & Construction, RHH ARCHITECTS, APAC , and Grace Hebert Curtis Architects And ended the afternoon with Coleman Partners Architects, LLC , Ritter Maher , Tipton Associates, APAC , and Domain Special shout out to the LSU AIAS exec team and AIA Baton Rouge for making this possible!
